heat
Sorry to hear you’re struggling with this heat.
I’m following this post because the weather is breaking me too. I do the opposite of what I should be doing when the hot weather makes it hard to breathe...I just keep going, even when my body is giving me all the signs and screaming at me.
When I can predict a flare, I do try to avoid all of my triggers (so not using cleaning products or spray deodorants, l avoid petrol stations etc) but I need to do more.
I find that when the weather suddenly changes I get worse. Is that the same with you? We went from a heatwave, to a storm, back to a heatwave here and I thought I’d escaped but in the last 3 days I can feel another flare coming on.
Thank you Mrscmk hopefully things will improve for all of us!
LOL I do things I know I shouldn't do also like being really dumb yesterday and went with my sister to pick apples but we had a lot of fun-until later when it all caught up with me!
Sudden changes in weather are the worst. Here in North East England we had cool to red hot, stormy to muggy and today the humidity is awful (20 degrees and 89%) . You just get so tired from the effort of taking your next breath and there’s no escape. Feel like i’m breathing in extra thick maple syrup. Hope you are hanging in there and your preventer meds are keeping you safe. I shudder to think what I would be like without mine. Really sweet that 3 sets of neighbours have been checking in on me during the hot weather even though I don’t live on my own.
so sorry your having a rough time, yea that would be awefull but I would sure take the 89 degrees over what we have been getting yea im doing ok I haven't had to use my inhaler yet its just the heat sure gets old, but soon I will be gripping because it will be to cold! LOL you have a good day
It sounds like you have fantastic neighbours- that’s so thoughtful of them.
As for this heavy air, I’ve had enough of it now. My airways feel so raw today- that’s about the only way I can describe them. If it still feeling like this tomorrow, I think I’m going to start my emergency pred but I hate taking them because they make me feel so rough.
And there I was just a few days back thinking I’d dodged a bullet after the storm- spoke to soon, haha!
Stay well 🤗
I have the best neighbours. They have all known me since I was born. They have all said that if I am in on my own and I am poorly just come and knock on the door. I know anyone of them would take me straight to A and E and stay with me for as long as needs be. I have a great support network behind me. I am very very lucky in so many ways.
I’ve had a spell in hospital this weekend from trying to push on through breathing difficulties in the heat. Obviously everyone’s different but I’d encourage others not to do this 😀 - not that I’m very likely to take my own advice in future!
Oh gosh, I hope you’re feeling better now? I need to be better at doing this. I think I’ve said in here before that I’m like a cat with 9 lives when it comes to avoiding admissions. I look after my asthma really well, I do everything by the book but I let myself down by fighting my body when it’s giving me signs
I’m doing better now thanks to the nebs and steroids, pretty exhausted though. I’m also good at looking after my asthma generally - I never miss my preventer doses - but I hate to make a fuss so tend to stay away from the gp/hospital for too long. I really hope I get over this one day as it’s an unnecessary risk really.
It makes me sad how often I read in here how people avoid their GP through trying not to make a fuss (I’m one of them too).
Until I was diagnosed, I never appreciated how serious asthma is but despite this, I’m still always reluctant to make GP appointments. I was previously told by a number of doctors that it was all in my head because I don’t wheeze and I guess (despite being severely allergic to a lot of things and having a formal asthma diagnosis) since then, what those doctors said have just stuck in my head and I think “I can do this without them.” 👎🏽
The heat may have gone, but be prepared for the next time. I am a Brit who lives on a Mediterranean island, where it’s very hot almost all the time. I’m an artist. An oil painter.
Tip #1: Buy a fan. Obvious really, but few people in Britain have one. Sleep with it blowing on you. While it may not directly help your asthma, it will remove all that stress from your already stressful asthma situation. And it will be there for you year after year. As an added bonus, mosquitoes can’t get near you with a fan blowing. They just blow away.
Even a small, cheap fan can make a difference, but the bigger the better. Note that smaller fans are noisier. Here’s a fan on Amazon. Cheap as chips.

Tip #2: If you can’t use or buy a fan, spray your clothes every once in a while with a water spray bottle. Perhaps you use one for your ironing. The cooling effect is dramatic. (But there’s no need to drown yourself. A little will do).
hi there,i have air conditioning but when it hit in the high 100s it still just plain hot!
an artist wow! you should post one of your paintings, bet they ae beautful
