Hi, got diagnosed in March this year had 3 attacks since 2 were controlled by my inhaler the last one took me to the ICU with respertiry fail type 1. Only been out over a week. My peek flow is between 250 an 350. My feno score is 77. Has anyone had adult onset asthma that has been hard to control, even the hospital couldn't control I it for hours nothing seemed to work. I was so fit now I can't even run up the stairs. The icu has scared the life out of me an am terrified is going to happen again.

Adult onset asthma
I have difficult to control asthma, also adult onset, only diagnosed 6 months ago, I have the same peak flow readings as you and now take fostair 6/100 and a blue inhaler, i find I have a lot of triggers, hayfever is my worst, i also find perfumes and suck like trigger attacks
Hi tezwik thanks for the reply am on that inhaler 200/6 an the montk tablets plus the blue inhaler which does not seem to be working very well so the doctor said I would need it changed to a mixed one not sure what one as he wants me to try it a bit longer as am not lo g out of hospital. Am waiting for my allergy test as the first one went missing. Am trying to find my triggers so far plug in scents or candle was kick me off. It's so frustrating not being able to do everyday things that I used to. The doctor did say I needed at least five weeks rest to heal an repair my lungs. But am so scared things won't improve. Have you found yourself not being able to do things you use to do. X
I do understand as mine all started last September when I had a sudden and very unexpected bout of pneumonia which almost took my life, which since then I’ve had nothing but problems with my chest. I find temperature changes are also a trigger for me, so going from hot to cold or vice versa is also a trigger.
There’s so much I can no longer do, I used to swim every single day, I’ve not swam since the pneumonia in September, I also used to go out walking, that’s had to stop too, I was very active but not any more, walking from the sofa to the loo is sometimes as active as my chest allows me to be
I know it was a big shock for you but now you need to concentrate on getting better. Finding out your triggers is a good place to start. I too find smelly candles a trigger, Strong chemical smells too. Be kind to yourself and take one at a time. I know its frustrating but you will get there.
Elanaoali is right. It takes time to recover from these serious episodes so don’t expect too much too soon. In a few months your activities will probably step up gradually.
You’ll learn what’s right for you, taking your Ventolin with you, or using it in advance, a light scarf or similar round your mouth and nose area in cold weather, to warm the air you breathe. Walking, cycling etc helps my deeper breathing, and so my asthma, though I can’t swim in chlorine water, I’m afraid....the smell sets me off. Sea water??!
I have to build up a bit again after an attack or lazy weeks (months?) but no real probs once you get there again. Always have your reliever with you of course, might need a puff.
I’ve got adult onset asthma too. Bit if a shock when it all kicks off, and makes you nervous, but things should settle a bit better.
I have adult onset too.
Mine swings from well controlled to difficult to control for no apparent reason. I've spent the last 7 months well controlled, this week I've had symptoms every day and night.
I really struggle with the impact it has, I love playing sport, but even when well controlled, I struggle with my asthma every single time. I cant seem to find anything that works and my GP is at a loss. When I swing to uncontrolled I usually end up being given a different inhaler, I think I've tried them all to varying degrees of success.
