In the next issue of Asthma Magazine we will be including a feature on people's experiences after being diagnosed with asthma as an adult in terms of how people have learned to live with a long-term condition later in life and the impact asthma has had on their lives.
If anyone would be happy to share their experiences, please let me know!
get a second opinion as I had the same symptoms and was diagnosed this year with Asthma
Me too. Aged 56 when diagnosed Feb 09.
last year @ 36.
TACO- get a second opinion, my GP wants to know about anything that comes out of you, no matter where and what colour, he thinks it's all important.
Hi diagnosed with Adult onset asthma following a very nasty chest virus is May this year, took many months to get me stable, though apparently I had bronchol problems has a baby. I would be happy to share my experience Thanks Donna
Mine started last year slowly and this year alot worse, not contrloed yet. 44yrs old
I was diagnosed at 24 - does that count?
I'm now 38, condition been up and down, particularly bad with colds/flu, managed to get well controlled until I started my current job in Sept 2006, got lots worse since, now classed as difficult to manage and unstable and at a point where it is a disability.
Have been having horrendous problems at work about absence/trying to get support to minimise symptoms.
Will happily contribute if you wish.
I am happy to share my experiences after being diagnosed a year ago today! at 21 spoiled my life!

I too am happy to share my experiences, was diagnosed at 33 but became debilitating aged 40.
would love to share my experiences of asthma and the effect it had on my life, all the challenges i faced over 20 years. How i had to learn to say ""No"" to people and take good care of myself, quality of life issues, etc.
What i found difficult to understand is people perception of asthma eg,- ""its only asthma"" if only they had to walk in my shoes during a bad flare up their perception might be so different.
On a positive note i have lived my life to the best of my ability using my abilities and skills, despite having lived with chronic asthma.
yes i would love to share my lifes experiences and make a difference for someone else along lifes journey.

Adult Onset Asthma
Hi
I am now 45 years old and have had asthma for approximately 3 to 4 years, I have tried to alter my profile so that you can contact me if you need any help with your article. If you have a problem with this please leave a note on this topic page and I will drop my email address in.
I have to say with my asthma I get periods where I think I have the situation under control and then something such as a cold, upper respiratory track infection or bad trigger reaction starts things off and I loose control of the situation.
Hope this helps.
