Ive been and seen consultant a few weeks ago now had tests today, nitric and spirometry. I've not got asthma, they didn't do reversibilty. I don't think so good news but not sure about next so I'll have to await to hear from consultant. I got peak flow way above average for my age and height which I already told GP loads of times 550 pf!! However my chest was sore from not having to have inhalers prior test and is definitely sore now. So the mystery continues. The consultant said a few weeks ago that some infections can mimic asthma might be one of them. Also I've had flu quite a few times and been given steroids and antibiotics. I feel a bit of fraud but I definitely need the inhalers and they definitely improve things. Now they might take them off me!!

I was sorry to hear your story. It is so upsetting and mystifying when the specialists can’t give you a diagnosis. It is true that certain conditions can mimic asthma in some ways but it is also true that the professionals can get it wrong. In my case I had two different diagnoses before I was told it was severe asthma. Obviously I did not improve until I was given the right medication for the right condition 😄. I also find that when I am tired and/or stressed my chest becomes tight and sore. To help me cope with this I practice Yoga. This helps me significantly and keeps me grounded 😂. Stay strong, persevere and continue to ask questions. If you need support ring Asthma UK even though you have been told you don’t have asthma. The team is extremely supportive and can give you some pointers on what to say to your consultant. I red anything and everything but this is not the right thing to do for some people so make sure that you are able to let go some things that you may read. My thoughts and prayers are with you 😄🙏
Sorry to hear you are having trouble getting a diagnosis. I hope your consultant gets some answers for you soon. Please try not to get hung up on PF. They are not always a reliable indicator. I have chronic brittle asthma and i have been admitted to hospital for it 3 times in theast 10 months. I am on multiple asthma treatments. However when i am well with my asthma my pf has been recorded at 580 and therefore it is not a useful tool for diagnosis but rather for monitoring after diagnosis. Please don't give up on getting answers. It took my consultant ages to get to the bottom of my symptoms and call it asthma. Keep fighting and if in any doubt ask for a second opinion.
