I am 77 and have had chest infections since a child. Despite having had cancers various and lots of health issues I am in pretty good form until the chest infections come along. I can deal with it in the usual way but the prednisolone sets of RLS and I get no sleep for a week. Now I am coughing up mucus which I am told is not infectious. What is it then. Please! I am new to forum.

Continuing mucus
Might be an infection that you did not know about. It could be COPD. You could request a test for COPD as I have a family member who coughs up mucus.
Thankyou. I Didn't really explain properly. I have COPD and am recovering from bad chest infection requiring 2 courses of antibiotics and 1 of prednisolone plus usual inhalers. I Still have lots of mucus but sample shows no infection. So it is now the nuisance of having to find private places to cough up and get rid of if I dare leave the house.
I am not worried about coughing up where ever I am. I just come of a slight chest infection and I had to throw up where I was. I got told off for doing it by an officer until they saw my meds and my dog tags. I politely explained to them what was wrong and they expect it
