Just tried to arrange this as free with bank account. I paid for travel.insurance in June separately when went to Provence. For the medical assessment for the bank policy got asked if had diagnosis so stated Yes, then was asked about consultant appointment and have one on Feb first one, he then said it wasn't a 'proper diagnosis' despite being on seretide salbutamol and montelukast and seeing gp, con sultant in hosp admission and ucc, and being a qualified nurse. And stated I might not have asthma I might have emphysema!! And not insurable and that no other insurer would give me travel insurance! I argued the toss then I said I'd like to end the call as not getting anywhere, and he said he'd like to end the call as I was being aggressive!! Now no travel insurance for Monday trip to Brittany France!! Can't believe it!!

Travel Insurance
Unfortunately, no company is obliged to insure anyone, if they don't want to - I suspect the bank would not give free insurance to anyone declaring a pre-existing condition, they should just have been clear at the outset (and it's probably in their small print). On the other hand, you should still be able to get treatment using your EHIC card, just that you won't be able to claim for travel disruption in the event of a medical condition flaring up, or any of the other things normally covered by travel insurance.
I'm not surprised the bank won't cover you as their insurance is usually not designed for conditions. However, that's less than ideal customer service and they have no place questioning your diagnosis or telling you the diagnosis is wrong and no one will cover you - I have never had anyone do that when buying insurance! I'd have been annoyed by the attitude too - when I tried my bank they just ran through the questions and said they couldn't cover my conditions but would offer me the policy excluding those, perfectly polite and no unnecessary attempts to play medic.
You can still try buying some today online for your trip tomorrow. I have difficult asthma and not everyone will take me but GetGoing used to (not sure why they won't now but worth a go in case you don't have whatever feature made them refuse me) and for my last trip it was Travel Insurance 4 Medical. Both reasonable prices and no dodgy small print- I refuse to use Insureandgo after finding some weasel clauses in the small print. There are also threads on here about it in case those don't work. Good luck!
