let me no what u think
Hope if you read this your not affect my this cold weather
not sure what you've been given now but ventolin IS salbutamol - just that different inhalers have different propellants which sometimes make the difference you've noticed
on my prescription i get airomir but i got inhalers without a prescription from asda which were ventolin evohalers. i prefer my airomir because it is a softer, gentler spray and is also a smaller device but i will still get the ventolin from asda as its far cheaper
like jinglfairy said, they're the same thing. Salbutamol is the drug and ventolin is the brand. My prescriptions aways used to say salbutamol and I got ventolin when I took it to the chemist.
Do you mean symbicort? That's the closest name I can think of but it's a combination inhaler so it contains some reliever and some preventer. It is smaller than ventolin though.

hi reachel
i use symbicort as a preventer but not as a reliever as i did not find it help fall in a attact or symptions so i now use salbutamol as my reliever yh also it is well smaller and still works well with spacer
hope u r well mat x

Mat or did you mean Salamol?
hey joan yes sorry for the miss spell
Mat, the salamol blue holder needs flushing through weekly because it soon gets blocked
where as the ventolin doesn`t because the ventolin is a much stronger spray

thanks i did see that ! the gp ever said to me !! wat if i dont use it for a bit same as ventolin let to puffs in the air then use ?
Mat, If you do try salamol, keep an old ventolin case so that if the salamol stops working you can use it in the ventolin case while you rinse out the salamol one and wait for it to dry

Can anyone help me understand the difference between Salbutamol and Ventolin?
My daughter is a serve asthmatic and has recently been switched to Salamol CFC-Free by our GP. She complains that the new inhaler makers her feel sick and doesn’t give her the same relief as Ventolin. Visually, I doubt she knows the difference between the two inhalers. At fist glance the two have the same Salbutamol Sulfate and I think they both use the same propellant. I can only assume there is a difference in pressure and or atomiser size.
Can anyone help explain the technical difference so that I can convince my GP.
Many thanks
I know salamol is cheaper, so GPs prefer to prescibe it. I hate salamol though, i agree with your daughter, and actually it makes me cough. i find using it with a spacer is the best thing i can do to make it a bit closer to using ventolin! Just ask your GP, as far as I know, most are willing to prescribe it if your daughter specifically prefers it.
Thanks for the response Soph. Our GP is being a little difficult.
I think I will try our local Asda as mentioned above unless someone can provide a technical difference between the two brands.
If it helps - my Ventolin says the propellant is HFA 134a, so you can check against your daughter's Salamol.
I'd have thought not being able to get enough in, if for some reason it's not as powerful, is a good argument as much as the contents (after all, if she has to take more to get relief because of the inhaler rather than her lungs it may end up costing just as much in the end!)
Is your daughter's GP otherwise good? If you have other problems with him/her it might be worth seeing another one in the practice.
I have been using the Salamol inhaler for a couple of years, my GP changed the repeat prescription from a Ventolin to Salamol. Numerous times I have commented that I prefer Ventolin. At a recent Asthma check with Practice Nurse I reiterated my comments and was told that nearly everyone she sees complains about Salamol. I have spoken to a Pharmacist today and he also said he had received lots of complaints about Salamol. He told me the manufacturer has been made aware of the complaints but has done nothing about them. The Pharmacist says he thinks it is the pump action that is not as powerful as a Ventolin. When you need relief, you want a quick action with one inhalation - the Salamol does not give me that relief (more often that not I need 3 inhalations of the Salamol or maybe more) but the Ventolin clears the problem with just one!
I have COPD and have had this for some time salamol and ventolin well I have had many arguments with SO CALLED PROFFESIONALS JOKERS VENTOLIN WORKS FOR ME SALAMOL DOSE NOT WORK AT IF ANYTHING MAKES ME WORSE THERE IS A DIFFERENCE END OF OH YES THE PRICE VENTOLIN IS MUCH MORE EXPENCIVE THIS IS WHY THEY WILL TRY AND FOB YOU OFF WITH SALAMOL FAKE BAKE IT LIKE BUYING FAKE CLOTHES FROM CHINA THATS THE ONLY WAY I CAN DESCRIBE IT ITS A KNOCK OFF OF VENTOLIN ITS JUST NOT GOOD SALAMOL DOSE NOR WORK OR HELP ME ANY WAY OR FORM SO NEXT TIME WHEN A SO CALLED PROFFESIONALS TELL ME OR YOU ITS THE SAME YOU AND ME BOTH NO THEY ARE LYING OR DO NOT NO WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT POSS A FAKE DOCTOR UNLESS YOU SUFFER FROM THIS ILLNESS YOU JUST DONT REALLY KNOW SO PLEASE DONT TELL ME YOUR PROFFESIONALS AND THEY ARE THE SAME PLEASE BECAUSE THEN I WILL GIVE YOU A BOX OF TISSUES TO WIPE THE BULL SHIT COMING FROM YOUR MOUTH MR UNPROFFESIONAL I THINK I HAVE MADE MY POINT STU56
Hi, I’m sorry I’m so late to the party, but I agree 100%. Ventolin feels a lot more harsh than salbutamol. I thought I was imagining things so it’s great to have someone else who’s said the same. I know everyone says it’s the same main ingredient, but maybe the propellants make the difference . Anyway, hope you’re well, take care
