hi

I took a travel sickness pill travelling on a rough ferry. I slept really deeply for 20hrs.

Has anyone else had this problem. I’m trying to decide wether to keep clear of them in future.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Bonine is a sea-sickness pill that won’t make you sleepy. I’m guessing you took dramamine! Yes, it knocks you on your a**!😉

Got it in one. Dramamine it was. I’ll seek out Bonine.

These acupressure wrist bands have really worked for me in the past for both sea travel, and balance problems due to Labyrinthitis and BPPV inner ear issues. Easy to get from pharmacies, or online, eg. Amazon.

Worth a try, but would still ask for advice from The Helpline on suitable medication to try, as your current meds may be interfering with travel sickness meds.

See what you think and bon voyage 🤗

Thank you, very interesting as I have BPPV too. I'll try them next time the bppv rears its ugly head. Do you wear one or two at a time for it please?

Wear one on each wrist. There are instructions on how to position them, so that the wrist “button” is on the correct acupressure point.

If you were ever given eye exercises to do to challenge your brain/ visual/ muscular co-ordination for BPPV from Vestibular Rehab, then bear these in mind too. Great to be as drug free as possible, if possible!!! 👍

For many years the Epley Manoeuvre has fixed me, this recent one one I just couldn't shift it and it lasted 10 long weeks. The GP told me she uses the Brant Davoff technique so I tried that a few times, it's slightly simpler than Epley. Finally it's shifted, I'm not sure if it was 3 days of Cinzarine a friend gave me or because during my first balance class a few weeks ago for an hour I stared at a switch on the wall above the tutors head so I wouldn't fall over!

Brandt-Daroff is FAR safer! Sadly the “consultant” who performed Epley on me 17 years ago, permanently damaged all my neck vertebrae, and still have a lot of pain from that.

Ladies in the Vestibular Rehab were brilliant, and I’ve never had BPPV since then. Just keep aware of visual balance techniques. Hope yours NEVER comes back 🤗

Thanks me too although I'd not had an episode since September 2016 when Betahistine fixed for me. The therapist must have manoeuvred your head without getting you to relax the weight of it in his/her hands. Sorry to hear that. I do my own, from youtube

Travel sickness pills are known to cause drowsiness. Could you take half the dose next time?

I would probably be the same (though luckily it would take a force 9 gale to make me seasick). A friend's husband gets travel sick, they asked the pharmacist for non drowsy pills but he still fell asleep driving on a French motorway hitting the central reservation. Try taking half of one next time you expect rough seas.
