Seretide

Hi all, recently diagnosed with asthma and started seretide on Friday. Yesterday I felt very shaky - like my blood sugar was low and I felt wet tired . In the middle of the night I had leg cramps and today I keep getting cramps in my hands. Is this normal ? On the plus side my asthma feels much better and I’m breathing better. Thanks for any help.

Hi

I’d go back to you GP and ask to try a different one. From the sounds of it you’re having issues from this particular brand/steroid-base. Ideally you shouldn’t have any side effects or just minimal ones which clear up within a few hours/days aka mild headache etc. However don’t stop it until the GP gives the ok, especially as you know it’s helping!

Hope that helps and things get sorted soon x

Thank you. It’s very early days and I’ll speak to the asthma nurse.

Some times seretide can have those effects to start with. It’s the long acting bronchodilator that makes you shakey.

It’s worth persevering for a few weeks.

For the cramps try adding some magnesium to your diet. Either magnesium tablets or a banana every day.

Best

Thank you. I’ll get some bananas and see if that helps. I’ll speak to the nurse too. I did read about the shakiness but it’s just such a weird feeling. However the seretide is definitely helping my breathing so I think it’s doing me some good. It’s just understanding what’s normal and what’s not.
