Hi, after struggling with chest infection for few weeks , after one course of antibiotics , two of Prednisolone , and lots of “wait and see “methods , the Gp changed my preventer from Relvar to Symbicort 200...the thing is that I am not very happy with the change as Relvar was more comfortable to take as it was only once in the morning and not so many adverse reactions, plus I was feeling it really helps clearing my chest after taking it in the morning ..but on the other side Symbicort I need to take it twice ( morning and night, two inhalation’s) , and not feeling that helps too much ( I’m taking It only for few days )plus gives my bad thrush in the back of my throat...so I’m really confuse ..any advice , any experience sharing I would really appreciate. Thank you !
Relvar or Symbicort?: Hi, after... - Asthma Community ...
Relvar or Symbicort?
Hello And here i am again ..same think...,hopefully someone had similar experience as I am still confused ...I was on Relvar yellow preventer but my Gp change it with Symbicort .i told to Gp that I was felling definitely much better with the first one but he keep insisting to take the second one , Symbicort which make me feel agitated , voice hoarseness, shaking, mouth thrush ...I am soooo confuse and don’t know what should I do in this situation..
Hi,
I was on Symbicort for a few years which was then changed by GP to Duoresp (cost issue again..as Duoresp is cheaper!) but as basic constituent components are the same (budesonide & formoterol) I just used Duoresp.
I have not being doing well on either Symbicort nor Duoresp as my FENO is around 60 and CRP around 30..so it’s very clear there is significant inflammation in my airways.
Respiratory consultant changed my inhaler to Relvar 184/22mcg 1 puff daily and I am doing better on it than either of the other two inhalers.
Still awaiting news on my promised treatment with Mepolizumab 🙏🙏
Like you I found I was having a lot of oral thrush on the Symbicort (and Duoresp) and as I was using them 8 puffs daily..4 in the morning & 4 in the evening it was pretty bad. I also had geographical tongue.
Good luck with whatever you decide but I have to say thus far I prefer this Relvar ellipta to either the Symbicort or Duoresp.
Hi and thank you for your answer .since I posted until last Friday I stayed on Symbicort as the GP insisted , but on Friday , I went to asthma clinic because of another chest infection and they got very upset with GP’s decision of changing the inhaler, saying that they shouldn’t interfere with the specialist decision .Asthma nurse told me I have to go back to Relvar and she will send a letter to the GP explaining all this things ....
Hi Memoc, I think the asthma nurse is right on this tbh. Your GP really shouldn’t be interfering with whatever the asthma specialist is recommending for treatment of your asthma. 👎👎
Delighted the treatment with Relvar Ellipta is being pursued as in my own experience it is definitely a better preventer inhaler than Symbicort or Duoresp. Having said that, we are all unique individuals and some people find they do very well on Symbicort regime. Sadly I wasn’t one of them & it sounds like you, like me, prefer the Relvar.
Good luck with it👍👌
Take care.🌸🌺
Hi memoc. That exact thing happend to me recently. I was on Relvar 92, and my doctor changed to symbicort 160. I could not take it for more than 3 days because all my symptoms were back.
It is the second time they tried to change my treatment with Relvar, without success. Maybe fluticasone works better for some of us.
Take care (:
