Asthma and hayfever back - confused

After a few good weeks I’m back to sneezing and wheezing again. I don’t understand - the pollen season’s supposed to be over. The only thing I can think of is thunderstorms- I think there was one overnight in London where I am. Anyone else also experiencing mysterious allergic symptoms?

Yes I am suffering with asthma and Hayfever too. I hope we get relief too.

Even when the grass pollen season ends there are other pollens that effect a lot of people.

Dear Lucia, I Used To Get My Piriton for Hayfever from My GP As I Also Have Asthma & Hayfever & Found as Soon as the So Called Cut Off Point for Pollen Season was Over & They Didn’t Prescribe it Again Until the Next Spring or Summer, I Used To Be So ill, Feeling like I was Suffering From the Worst Chest Infections or Flu, it Happened Repeatedly & I Know it’s Not Recommended, But I Take it All Year Round and I’m Fine Now! Hope This Helps! 😊 Sonique 58

Thank you very much everyone for your replies. I have antihistamines etc that I can take. I’m just a bit confused as the app on my phone says that the pollen count - for all pollens - is low at the moment. It’s a bit of a mystery!

Hello, grass pollen season is over but there are other pollens around such as some weed pollens. Asthma UK website has a table of when different pollens appear - asthma.org.uk/advice/trigge...

It is tough. I start with birch and hazel in spring, then go on to react to mugwort (a weed). Urgh... Plus I find certain irritants such as bonfires and BBQs don't help although they don't make me wheeze. Could be the thunderstorm I guess.

Yes . I have had a chronic cough since Christmas and was put on a course of steroids a few weeks ago which made me better for 2 weeks , but now I’m back to square one again. I thought it was just me suffering at the moment. The thing that I’m most upset about is that during the good 2weeks I saw a consultant who just signed me off because I was really well , so now I don’t know what would happen if I get really poorly again ?????

Hi Pippit great that you had a couple of good weeks, but I can understand the frustration went it returns! Suggest you go back to GP if it gets worse. Sometimes you can phone the Consultants Secretaries to see if the Consultant will fit you but generally they prefer to go via GP but then it can take ages. Hope that you don't have to!

Hey there! I read through the comments and wanted to add that in another discussion here on the forum recently I found out (or realised actually) that rain brings down pollen and dust that are normally higher up in the air. That irritates our allergies (I have chronic rhinitis on top of my asthma and my nose has been acting out while my breathing has become a little laboured during this rain season we are having in Bulgaria). Take your meds according to your condition, not the season, I say.
