I am confused with the diagnosis of a Hospital Consultant. I was admitted to AMU at my local hospital and when the consultant came to my bedside he said that i have not had my usual severe exaserbation of asthma but my lungs have been subject to Oesteoparosis, due to the amount of steroids which I have to take on a daily basis. Althogh we are on first name terms when scene privately and get on very well.,I am confused as to this diagnosis. He said that as usual I do not conform to the normal problems which other asthmatics suffer with that is why he is doing my bedside visit and not the Doctor who the other patients had been visited by consulted myself. I thank him for his personal intervention with my problems. To add to this I have now been diagnosed with type two diabetes.
Hey well another thing to cope with. I will put on my ususal smile and get on with life. Im not ready for the wheel chair yet

I don’t know a great deal about this Wheesy but I will share what I know.Firstly, a while ago I had a bone density scan and am in the stage before Oesteoparosis, not that I can remember what that was called! The dr explained that this meant my bones were a bit less dense than they should be, but should it progress there are pills he can prescribe to strengthen the bones. So that is something to bear in mind, and ask you Dr about next time you speak.
Oesteoparosis Is a disease that affects the bones not other organs as far as I know. So I’m wondering if your cage is effected or perhaps you upper spine, maybe this would alter the way in which your ribs expand? So maybe it is this that is interfering with your lung function?
By the way, my mum had Oesteoparosis for many years and her biggest fear was that she would end up in a wheelchair, but it never happened, nor did she have any fractures or broken bones.
Many thanks for your valuable information and I will consult with my Specialist and not the ward specialist as I am lucky in that I can contact him via his secretery direct and if he thinks that he needs to talk to me he will.
Have you had a bone density scan? That's normally how they diagnose osteoporosis. Or if you've broken a bone in a way that wouldn't generally cause a break then they will sometimes diagnose osteoporosis based on that if you have risk factors (like long-term steroid use).
Generally unless you've broken a bone osteoporosis shouldn't cause any symptoms though. The most important thing is to make sure you're on some sort of regular bone protection.
I was diagnosed with osteoporosis earlier this year when I fractured some of the vertebrae in my back so happy to try and answer questions/share experiences!
Thanks for responce I have got a scan at the end of the month for oesteoparosis and then we will have a better vie w on what is happening, and if possible to ask questions at this time.
