Another trip to A&E

Last night I woke up with the beginnings of an asthma attack at 12:30 am. My throat was really itchy and I started to cough. I gave myself ventolin 2 puffs initial then 2 more etc til I got to 10. Still no improvement but peak flow was perfect.

So got up and found my husband who hadn't gone to bed yet. Night owl! Ask him to take me to A &E. 5 minute drive from my house. 4 more puffs 2 before I left and two on the way.

I got seen pretty quickly by that point a bit better but still had cough. Triaged and given a chair in treatment area. The nurse who Triaged me gave me a nebuliser of salamol. Never had this before so asked a few questions. ( know that it's equivalent of 10 puffs of ventolin).

Then sat there and waited for nurse or doctor. Did peak flow as requested perfect 510. Also had Ecg and bloods taken. Due to a bit of mix up didn't get any prednisolone after nebulizer. (Please don't critize the staff I was fine after the nebulizer cough had nearly gone).I am well aware of the routine of treatment in A &E having been there 7wks ago with an asthma attack due to cold.

After about 3hrs during which I had obs done 2 twice saw a lovely doctor who listen to my chest and I did peak flow for. Perfect 500.Discharged with Adult asthma discharge plan. 5 days of prednisolone and reducing ventolin for 4 days. Home at 7am inhalers, feed guinea pigs, breakfast and bed.

Thanks once again to nhs staff and my amazing husband still asleep on futon. Roll on my consultant appointment on the 20th when he will be asking how I been since he saw me early November.

Hey folks just worked out what set me off last night by talking to one of my good friends who has asthma too. Dust, hay dust actually from cleaning out our shed which had got messy with hay. I keep a bale in a hay bag for giving for our guinea pigs. Sweeping up must have really stirred up the dust particles. Breathed it in obviously too much for my lungs. Feeling a bit of a silly. Lesson learnt the hard way.

I've realised this winter that even doing gently dusty housework I do better with a mask. Helps me.

Update on me found be salbamol was giving me a slitting headache. The headache started in A & E after I used it to treat my asthma attack. Even after asking for paracetamol when I was there couldn't get rid of it. Been using it at 5hr intervals 6 puffs per discharge plan. So switch back to ventolin for last two ones. Hoping headache will be gone by morning. Chest aching sign that my muscles around my lungs have been working hard.

Looking forward to a good night sleep.

Struggled to get to sleep last night as I still had the slitting headache, sore chest and very sore bladder due to my painful bladder syndrome it flared up due to the stress. Woke up a 2 am but manage to dose off again but wide awake at 5am. Got a hot water bottle and was able to dose til I had to get up at 6:15 am.

Spent the day pottering around and tidying up the house. Lots of sitting down in between. Haven't gone to work and not doing brownies tonight (I am a brownie leader). Unfortunately my acid reflux which was getting better due to prednisolone course in January as flared up again. Two weeks in with omperloze I was started to feel much better. I think the steroid tablets have irradiated my stomach again.

Have an appointment with Doctors tomorrow afternoon to check me over as per discharge adult asthma management plan. I going to mention the acid reflux and see what the doctor says. I taking anti acid liquid medication on top of the omperloze. Any other advice grateful received.
