Fostair for asthna

Hya. I am struggling at the moment to control my asthma. I have been on symbicot for many a year and recently tried seritide ehich didnt work and went straight back to sybmbicort. I have just been put on fostair and would like some feedback from other people on fostair. It's to early for me to say if it works for me or not as this is the first full day on it. Appreciate feedback.

You haven't given enough information as to why you stopped your Symbicort or what dose you were taking.

I was on sybmbicort 200 turbohaler. Lately for a few months I have been waking up breathless tight chest and all other symptoms of asthma also found I needed to take my reliever a lot more and stopped going out with friends if it meant a little more walking that I knew I would be useing my reliever. My asthma became out of control and my peak flow was down to 250 at best.

Yes that was exactly the same as I was. My nurse sister who specialises in asthma was going to up the dose of sybmbicort then she decided to try me on fostair throu my aero chamber , simular to a spacer and after two weeks of being on fostair 200/6 2 inhalation for ten seconds each holding breath morning and night my asthma is definitely improving. The sister said she is looking for more of an improvement after a month. My peak flow is back up a bit and I don't wake up with asthma overnight anymore and am not taking my reliever as much and the sister said that should also improve after a month of fostair. I hope this helps you and others reading this as it has been a turning point for me. I have put on a little bit of weight but the pharmacist said it was possibly coincidence but possible due to steroid which is no different than sybmbicort which has the same steroid amount only it's getting down into your lungs better as smaller particles.

I was on Seretide 250 for 2 years and recently changed (6 wks ago) over to Fostair Nexthaler 100 mg/6 mg per actuation. One of the GP I had seen at my doctor practice thought this would better for me as it has smaller particles.

It has worked for me. I try a different inhaler in the past and it wasn't suitable I knew within 2 days as my symptoms came back. Thats what I based on where it was working. However asthma UK nurses will tell you it takes any inhaler needs 2 wks to kick in.

Hi tazjosie,

Symbicort, seretide and fostair are all combination inhalers which means they all have the inhaled steroid part and the long acting reliever part. They all come in different doses and your doctor or nurse will prescribe what they think is the best dose to control your symptoms. Some are sprays and some are powders. If you have started on the fostair that comes as a spray you may find it easier to use with a spacer and to breathe it in slowly and deeply. If you have the fostair nexthaler, it's a powder and you need to suck in quickly and deeply. It really is about which combination inhaler at which dose suits you and keeps your asthma well controlled and to make sure you take it everyday even when you feel well.

I am on fostair 200/6 mcg pressurised inhalation solution. Is this the spray and if so what is it like for oral thrush

Are you just taking this as a preventer or as a reliever too? My advice is be careful if you taking it for both as I found side effects terrible. 😊

No only as presenter I use Salamol as reliever

I have been on fostair for two weeks and have noticed a definite improvement of which my nurse sister who specialises in asthma said I should see a greater improvement over the month.

Hi All,

I was on seritide 250 for about 8 years and i feel it didn't work for me I was at the doctors every 4 to 12 weeks with chest wheezyness the doc kept saying chest infection and give antibiotics and or prednisolone. 1 year ago I went got sent to the asthma clinic who changed my inhalers to symbicort and speriva respimat and all last year I didn't have any antibiotics probably the first time ever iv not had them within a 12 month period.
