Hi has anyone here had lately a full screened blood allergy test Just had one done on order of consultant. Going to take time as not done that often in terms of batch testing.
They will be looking for Ign markers looking at mutilate allergies on his knowledge base and my input ... cat, dog, guinea pigs, dust mite, mould, tree spores and the dust mite. I know that I have had strong react to friends cat I.e ticklery cough first symptoms. Thought please.
I had blood test screening for food allergies last year (about twenty different foods were checked). It was requested by my gastroenterologist. It didn’t tell me anything I didn’t already suspect as far as the different foods were concerned; I was fairly certain I didn’t have any food allergies - and all the foods checked came back negative. The shock came with my total IgE count. I had expected that to be higher than the given normal range, what I hadn’t expected (and it was blatantly obvious that the consultant hadn’t either) was how high it was. I was symptomless when that blood test was taken though I had been in a house with a cat in the previous twenty four hours - drugged up to counter any problems that might cause as we know cats can trigger an allergic response in me. My total count was just under 900. It has certainly laid to rest any doubts consultants might have on my asthma status.
I’ve never had any allergy screening other than that. The one time it was discussed (thirty years ago) I was told - by a consultant in respiratory medicine - that screening would almost certainly fail to identify everything I was allergic to so there was no point in doing it. But I suspect allergy screening has progressed hugely since then and is rather more thorough now.
Thanks your post was very interesting and enlightening. I can't remember all the consultant said but there must of been something in previous blood test that made him want to do this blood test. A new thing for me to get my brain around but even so a very interesting thing. I been interested in allergies since I trained as a nursery nurse and now being my own food detective for my IC.
Things have certainly go a lot easier on food to when reading labels. Go back 20 years and it was very hard to find if it contain nuts for instant.
Kiwi are definitely a big no no for me. I can't eat them now and they would make my tongue and lips itchy. Also just remembered pineapples but I think that was done to the spray they use on no organic pineapples which irritable me. Organic pineapples where fine. Sad to say off the menu too. 
Hoping the rest comes through soon. Part of me is thinks what if it shows none thing and part of it goes why all the fuss. However sensible headed me knows that this is something that I have to do. Like a little kid sometimes wanting to throw the toys out of the pram moment.
One of the things my consultant made clear to me was that just because those twenty foods came back clear didn’t mean there wasn’t a problem (given that IgE count he said I was atopic and a food allergy couldn’t be ruled out). Then of course food ‘intolerances’ won’t be picked up by allergy screening. Interestingly I do have problems with molluscs - but not allergy type problems. No itching and tingling, just feeling rather unwell about forty five minutes/one hour after I’ve eaten them. Blue mussels were one of the things checked by that screening, and it came back negative. Even more interesting is the fact that my younger son (another asthmatic, though his is mild to the point where he hardly ever needs to use an inhaler now - though he still has them) has the same problem. He loves seafood and tried mussels for the first time when he was about sixteen. He thoroughly enjoyed them - but, like me, began to feel unwell about an hour later. He’s tried molluscs again since and each time the same thing has happened. He doesn’t eat them now.
We do know that I’m allergic to iodine, but that wasn’t picked up until I had a CT scan which used a contrast dye containing iodine. I had flagged up molluscs as a potential problem (this was before the allergy screening) so they had a doctor on standby just in case. Within ten minutes of the scan I started to itch on my right thigh, an itch that got worse rapidly. Inspection to find the cause revealed two itchy red lumps (each the size of a two pence coin). I spent the next half an hour under observation and apparently an allergic reaction to iodine has been recorded on my medical notes. I now wear a medical alert bracelet to warn medics of it just in case I’m involved in an accident and unable to communicate the allergy.
Your post is very detailed and interesting on food allergies. As I have taken out a lot of things out of my diet because of my I. C. It would be interesting to see if there was any food ones. From what the consultant said he only asked if I thought I was allergic to nuts and I said no. There are some nuts I don't eat as per ic diet. My main concern is to take out things that irritating my bladder. I love peanut butter as it's one of the things I can eat.
I have heard of mussels allergies and how things can affect you not straight away.
I could discuss food allergies all day long but that is for another time.
I am like my sister have something happen to them but able to divorce myself and find it very interesting. I am a person who will ask lots and lots of questions til I understand. Hence me asking lots of questions. I can get very annoying to all around me and told to stop talking about it.
Today I reminded myself to be patient. This test is going to take time. I need distraction back to the real world. Today I got a taste of normal routine. That helped.
I had blood allergy testing about a year ago. Mine came back as positive for dogs, moulds, tree and grass pollen, dust mites and cats. My cat allergy I was told couldn’t come back much higher at over 100. I also have a citrus fruit allergy which can effect me even by smelling it and a milk allergy. When my Ige was tested it was 900 and that was on high dose steroids which are supposed to mask these things. I have since been put on xolair injections to help the allergy side of my asthma. X
I read up on your post you have had a tough time. My thoughts are as follows cats (don't live with any though) mould very lightly cause seen me react to this at home. Can't eat citrus due to ic. My result will have been done on a 11 day of prednisolone 40mg. So it will be interesting to see what will show up I thought that the steroids would mask the ige but obviously not.
Would feel an utterer fraudster if come back as normal.
No keen on having injections (don't mind being jab just time factors already spent a lot of time before going to and through with other condition.)
Can you tell me about the Xolair injections yourself e experience would be valuable to me.

Just to add to this post results of ige blood test very strong positive 4 for house dustmites negative for cats and dogs and Timothy hay. Don't know what else was tested.
Glad to know that this is a definite confirmation of my asthma diagnoses said the doctor yesterday who gave me the results. The consultants who saw me last month did questions my initial diagnosis from 12 years ago.
Next for me will be breathing tests at end of January And then seeing the consultant.
