Hi, I'm new to this community. I need some advice. I have been on Phyllocontin tablets 225mg one twice a day for over thirty years! I'm in my mid forties. My doctor wants to remove me from this tablet as its an old way of dealing with Asthma. I'm also on Flixotide and Ventolin inhalers. I am nervous to start the reducing process. When I forget to take a tablet in the morning, I get a severe headache and end up taking an afternoon nap where I go into a deep sleep. If I forget to take it at night I struggle to get up in the morning, again headache and deep sleep!
Has anyone came off Phyllocontin tablets when they have been on them a long time? Any advice?

I’m sorry to hear this. My 20 yr old son has been on Uniphyllin (basically the same as Phyllocontin) for about 8 yrs and if he misses a dose he feels quite unwell (ie asthmatic). It is a shame some doctors think it is an old fashioned treatment because it is still an effective drug.
I would go back to your doctor and discuss the matter, especially if your asthma flares up when you don’t take the drug, and you have these unpleasant side effects. Good luck and I hope things improve for you.
I have been on Phyllocontin since mid 80's on odd occasion I haven't taken it my asthma worsens within hour or two. Would certainly go back to doctor's and discuss what happens when you don't take them. Sometimes the old remedies can be the best. I do take other things for my asthma i.e. Flixotide, Salbutamol and Singulair and good old Prednisolone. Good luck
Hi all, I just wanted to say thank you for your comments. It has helped me to decide what I should do. I've been to my GP this morning and I'm going to be referred to a Respiratory Consultant to see what they would recommend. Tuesday morning last week I forgot to take my tablet and I had a horrible day. It didn't click with me that I forgot to take my tablet!
I was hospitalised over Christmas (COPD flare) and phyllocontin became a new addition to my medications, mentioning that it would take a couple of weeks to kick in. 2-3 weeks later I feel no value in it. Compared to my condition prior to being hospitalised I am now much reduced in health. Have oxygen at home and have to say feeling pretty much depressed about the future. I am a shadow of my former self.
