Well I visited the GP on Thursday 3rd August with all my concerns I saw a different GP than previously and he confirmed that there absolutely is links between breathing issues and acid re-flux but he also said that as i'm not feeling any re-flux issues I must be managing that issue well with the omeprazole.
He then went on to say that I should of had an asthma plan by now and was dismayed that I didn't have one so he booked me in with the asthma nurse unfortunately I couldn't get in until mid September! so in the mean time he has told me not to take the symbicort any more and he prescribed Sirdupla 125 MDI inhaler (but no spacer) to try he told me that this isn't usually prescribed for people with mild asthma but because of the amount of symptoms I'm currently having decided to.
Obviously I've read up on it now and its a steroid measured dosage inhaler that contains salmeterol and fluticasone propionate. And I could have similar side effects as symbicort with hoarse throat and possibly mouth thrush so plenty of rinsing and teeth brushing after each use which is two puffs first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
This is partly what the Sirdupla (Glaxo) web page says
"Salmeterol is a long-acting bronchodilator. Bronchodilators help the airways in the lungs to stay open. This makes it easier for the air to get in and out. The effects last for at least 12 hours.
Fluticasone propionate is a corticosteroid which reduces swelling and irritation in the lungs.
SirduplaTM is indicated in adults 18 years of age and older for the regular treatment of asthma where use of a combination product (long-acting β2 agonist and inhaled corticosteroid) is appropriate. SirduplaTM should not be used for patients with mild asthma.
SirduplaTM should be used in moderate persistent asthma only where symptoms cannot be controlled by a lower strength product (not available for Sirdupla)."
I Took my first dose On Thursday night and it already seems to be working I didn't have symptoms when I woke Friday morning including no coughing the only thing I have noticed is a very slight need to clear my throat which may or may not be anything to do with it as its very early days.
Its now Monday 7th August and ive been using the new inhaler as I was prescribed and I have not had to use my blue inhaler once, although Sunday evening I started to get a little tight and wheezy but I decided to leave it as it was very mild and I was due to take the preventer in the next hour or so. It didn't get worse and had calmed down by the time I took my preventer.
Monday morning I woke again without symptoms but after taking my morning puffs on the preventer, it made me cough slightly for around 30 minutes and I did cough up a small amount of mucus also I was very slightly wheezy but after around 30 minutes it all ceased and everything was ok.
(I find that i'm always slightly worse when I am woke by my alarm and get up for work than I am at weekends when I wake naturally does anyone else experience this could it be that i'm more rushed on a work day?)
Symbicort Turbohaler or should I ask to try fostair+?
