So I have had a few bad attacks in the last week requiring ambulances and gp appointments.
However, after a scary ambualnce ride i was admitted to hospital. I'm still a bit emotional about it all ๐.
I remember calling an ambulance and feeling like I might not make it. I had a silent chest when they arrived and things escalated quickly.
I dont remember much after starting on a nebuliser except for when I was then in resus at the hospital. I am told that I almost stopped breathing and they couldn't rouse me. ๐ฎ
As a consequence my chest is really sore from hard work breathing and what they call a 'sternum rub'. I am bruised.
After a barrage of test's, endless nebs and steroids I'm on the mend! ๐
The moral of my story is that it's best to get help early and treat it seriously. There were times I'd have ignored or thought I knew best and carried on. This however has opened my eys to how serious asthma can be.I dont think I properly appreciated that til now. ๐
I am very grateful to the ambulance crew who probably saved my life ๐ถ.
Hoping I can move on with a clearer plan from now but can't wait to get out of here. It's so tiring!๐ด

Oh goodness what a scary experience and thank god you called the ambulance. I hope your consultant will be working hard to get to the root of it and try and stop it escalating like this again.
I have heard a few times that as many as half of asthmatic deaths could be prevented with better care, not being able to breathe is always a medical emergency.
I hope you are feeling better soon and can get out of there and back home again. x
Sorry to hear you've had such a rough time of it!!! Glad you managed to get to help in time and have had a good response to the treatment (even if you're still a bit sore!) - the first major attack is always a shock to the system but at least you're a bit more aware now (every cloud as the saying goes...)
I completely agree that hospitals are tiring! Was just in for 2 nights myself and had a total of 6 interrupted hours of sleep on top of the normal fatigue asthma attacks can cause ๐๐ด๐ด! Try and get some sleep if you can (esp if you don't know how long you're in for!)
Let the tears out - if you're still admitted and feel self conscious draw the curtains at night and let go, alternatively speak to the nurses and let them know you just need to cry and not to worry - it's your bodies way of trying to cope with the fact you nearly died (and some drugs can make you more emotional anyway ๐ )
Hope you're feeling better, and get the right support so you can escape soon (and not return for a loooong time!!)
Glad ur ok I didn't realise asthma culd kill until I lost my sister to an asthma attack 2 years ago she was only 30 and a mother of 4, there's so much people don't know bout asthma and needs to be addressed more clearly. Take care xxxxx
