Aminophylline

Is it possible to ever come off aminophylline? I've been on aminophylline for over 8 years and I'm just curious if a person can be taken off this.

I won't without medical advice but I curious if people can come off this medication.

Sorry can't help as I have no experience of this medication but hope there is someone out there who does. Good Luck. X

Hi I would like to know the answer to that 🤔 I've been on this for 36 years. I used to take 5 a day until a doctor told me 4 a day was the maximum dose otherwise it is toxic. That was 15 years a go. 😐 Best wishes x

Exactly my situation I think I am probably nearer to 10 years I can't remember when i was stared on it exactly but it must have been after a flare up.

I have that same problem with toxity levels and I am only on three and I think my levels of aminophylline jump up high if I get put on an antibiotic with a lot of them clashing.

Hi. I take my mine 2 hours apart otherwise it makes my heart race. I take a lot of meds and it can be a problem for me. 😩

I know how you feel I have multiple meds for predominantly allergies. I take my three 4 hours apart but I still get palpitations 😞

Yes you can. It should be done with supervision and monitoring.

I would not think so if you are severe enough to need it orally then you will always need it . Do you have your levels done to check you are on the right dose? Ask it may be it could be reduced xxxx

My consultant is keen to keep it at 3 but I am keen to get weaned off. But I know that I will need it. It does work but the side effects are too much.

My level was low on 2. So three made it perfect my symptoms are still bad so I'm worried they may increase it still.

Hi I've never had my levels checked but I'm seeing consultant soon so I will ask about it. I have read so much on here that I've never heard of but sounds like it would help me so will ask about them too. I have been asthmatic all my life take a lot of meds that hasn't been changed in 16yrs !! My husband has Ipf xx

Hi

I have been on amino for almost 3 years and occasionaly have my levels checked, I only take one tablet twice a day and according to my blood results I am on the correct dose, I think everyones tolerance levels are different.

Its good stuff though worked wonders for my asthma cough

I was on aminophylline for several years until a doctor in an emergency room refused to administer it. He used ventolin nebules instead

I was weaned off it while I was on Xolair injections as it was making such a wonderful difference to my asthma. I was told to wean ever so slowly and came down by 100mg every 4 weeks (I was on 400mg bd). My peakflow was reasonably ok while I was stepping down but within a few weeks of stopping my asthma became quite poorly controlled again so I was put back on it again. It's not something I'd personally ask to come off again having had a poor wean but it's something you could always talk about with your consultant!
