Hi - I am back home after a weekend away. My asthma can he quite tricky to control.  I'm on symbicort 400 4 or 6 puffs per day and montelukast. I take antihistamine and have an epipen. I take a nebuliser with me when I go away. Every time I go away from home my asthma really plays up and I wondered if anyone has any tips on how to stop this happening. It flares up when I go into pubs (I'm thinking this might be from perfumes and cleaning products), when I eat in restaurants, hotel beds are a trigger. Even walking about becomes a big problem. I don't want to complain but it is a pest and makes my husband very worried. I have ordered a small nebuliser to go in my handbag.

Luckily today I feel much better after a night back at home.

Can anyone think of anything else I could try that would help?

Thanks xxx

My GP once asked me if my asthma was affected when I went on holiday.  From what she said I rather got the impression that it was not unusual for asthma to be triggered by doing so, but that many found that things adjusted after a few days.  Of course, time of year might have something to do with it - high pollen counts/poor air quality (dependent on where you went of course).

Difficult to know what to suggest, other than going away for short breaks more often in the hope that your lungs will adjust to changes (if that's what caused the problem).

Hi

Thank you for getting back to me. I have spoken to an asthma nurse and started steroid tablets. Will be going in to see her in next few days to update my asthma plan.

Allergies do seem to be the main trigger and I will just need to be better prepared another time.

Pollen is high here today but it is lovely to see the sun at last 😊

Yes it's hard with hot air pollen and pollution..I finished my course of steroids and I'm on 2puffs of ventolin plus 2 puffs of Atrovent 3 times a day on top of my seretide 250 2 puffs 3 times a day. Well I' m high!! I've been drinking relaxing herbal tea so I can get a little sleep tonight!!

Good luck Emily xx
