Hi Mat,

Yes, pollen is a big trigger for me! Starts in Feb and usually is calming down by the end of Aug ready for the moulds. Apart from getting colds and viruses do you find Dec and Jan are your best months?

Hi Mat,

Yes pollen is a big trigger for me too

grass pollen is a big trigger for me too, and unfortunately it can have such a long season - I spent six months on oral steroids last year :( Do you take high dose antihistamines like Telfast? Or Monteleukast?

Its a real pain isnt it, I barely left the house all summer.

I have the same problem, my asthma is only triggered by pollen and colds. I was tested for the type of pollen I am allergic to - as there are lots.

Mine was grass pollen, and I was referred for desensitisation therapy. I did push for this, i am not sure it would have been offered if I hadn't asked. I had a course of pollinex injections. I don't know if it has worked or not yet, the season starts in May, but even a small inprovement on last year will be a help. I was off work for 3 months and barely left the house. Allergy testing might be something to discuss with your doctor to see if there is any specific treatment for your type of allergy, it is just a blood test.

Hey Lisa,

Hope you are well I have had a allergy test last year there is lots pollen that I am allergic to as well as cats Tabaco smoke and some over strange bits like some food colours and e numbers also co codamol and some NSAID

Maty:)

I'm allergic to grass pollen. My sister had desensitisation therapy, but I can't as my lung function is poor and asthma severe :( I really wanted to give it a try. I hope it's worked for you.

I'm really hoping it works. I can't bear the thought of gasping through another summer, and all the fear, pain and fatigue that comes with it. Has anyone tried any other inhalers - I was wondering about Intal or Tilade - but they don't seem to be prescribed much these days. I will try anything top get some control back.

Go see you gp see what they say ? I am trying to keep mine under control atm peak flow before Morning and night preventer inhalers and if I fall 100 below by idea target for more than 2 days I go see her or if drops below 250 go to walk in centre asap but so far so good :) try calling auk see what they think there very good for advise

Mat

Im already on three inhalers plus nebulisers and things are still crap with oral steroids on top, so Im probably not the one to ask lol. I have fostair, ciclesonide (both contain a steroid) and spiriva (tiotropium). Do you see a consultant? May be worth asking them about add on's... :)

hey I don't see a consultant for this but see a consultant for pain management yes my gp has said about add on's last year I was on preds for a little bit as well don't want to end up last year I have moved to a new gp wish it very good they care about u unlike my old go that did not care you was just a number on there pc and gave you pills just to get rid of you

Hope u are well Mathew :)

Hey fever season not great for anyone it doesnt seem :-(

I unfortunately haven't really got much to add, other than what other people have said about add ons. There are fair few you can try. Alternatively you could see about adding a LABA to your inhaled steroid which can help to keep symptoms at bay. Unfortunately its something you'd have to talk through with your GP. I find that when I visit my GP it helps if I've done some research before hand, so that when he suggests something I have a bit of a background and if he's at a bit of a loss, I can say ""I've heard a bit about ..... would that work?""

Glad you get on with your GP and feel listened to :-)

Hey I take 2 of the 120mg tablets a day so that is 240mg a day that is what my gp said to do I will ask her nice time I see her

hope u are well

mat :)

ah, didnt see you were doubling the dose, just ignore me lol ;)

Im starting to struggle... think the scooter will be out this week :(

Count me in on this one: grass, olive trees, and a flowering plant named parentalia that blooms from spring to autumn. The allergist stopped at just 8 patches since it was obvious from the first 8 she tried that I was allergic, so there could be other things on the list.

Matthew: very glad to hear you have a supportive GP.
