Can anyone tell me what their/their child's symptoms are like if they have cough variant asthma please? I have seen a lot of you mention this and had a google but it's a bit vague, always better hearing personal experiences!

Cough Variant Asthma
Hi
My daughter has cough variant asthma and what it means for her is that she rarely wheezes she coughs. When she has an exacerbation she coughs constantly and is sometimes sick with it. The downside of cough variant is that not everybody is familiar with it. The number of times I have heard 'her chest is clear & she isn't wheezing'. Her notes now state that she has cough variant asthma and I point this out to the less enlightened who then treat as needed.
Exactly as mummyj said. My son never wheezes but he coughs constantly. It's what I call a asthmatic cough in that its not a chesty cough like you'd get with a chest infection or a tickly cough with post nasal drip. It's quite dry and non productive and its just a constant cough which as you can imagine is exhausting after a while.
Ethan is just the same very rarely wheezes but coughs so much at times its like he is choking sometimes proping him bk on his pillows works other times he needs his reliever x
My son also has this. I have found putting Vics vapour rub on the soles of his feet especially at night time as this helps him get some sleep at least.
My wee girl does sound similar! She is only ever bothered with attacks if she has a cold, even just a sniffle
