Nebuliser

Can anyone recommend a good nebuliser, or are they much of a muchness. They seem to go from £45 upwards. It doesnt need to be portable.

Has your doctor or consultant told you to get one? Have they told you when to use it? Questioning this because you shouldnt just get one, you need strict guidlines from your doctors to have one at home. If you are needing a nebuilser for most people with asthma you need to be in hospital, there are only a few special cases where consultants or doctors let you have one at home.

I looked into this when i was dx last yr, the gps let me borrow one short term while the consultant sorted me out .... you can only get the nebs from your gp or consultant so just buying one without the say so of your gp or consultant is a waste of money as you cant get the meds to go in them...... Also you need to know how to use them and when to call it a day and call 999 or get to A/E. My GP wasnt happy about me having one on a permenent basis and I think that unless you have severe asthma thats usually the case with most gps. Hope your keeping well ...... regards Donna

I should have explained more, sorry.

It is my partner who is asthmatic not me, and the nebuliser is a replacment for en existing one which is now broken.

The nebs she uses are salbutomol and atrovent if that helps.

sorry mog i automatically assumed it was for you hun. As I said in my original post I looked into this and like you I found they all varied in prices. Can I suggest maybe asking your asthma nurse for her advice or what I was going to do was ask the pharmacist in boots which was were I think id made my mind up to go originally, (iv been to sleep since then lol ) . Theres always ask the asthma nurse on here im sure she would help you, she has me on quite a few occasions, the numbers at the top of the page. Good luck, let us know how you get on, Donna :-).

Good nebs.......... Portaneb by Respironics Under £100 I think

Turboneb by Medix (Clement Clarke) Under £100.

PLEASE do not buy one from the internet unless it is a medical company specialising in nebulisers or medicall equipment.

There are some very good basic ones around and some real rubbish ones - you need one that will not break down in an emergency.

I had a medix AC4000 on loan from my local hospital found that to be quite good, also have a freeway elite , portable but still noisy and an omron micro air which is fully portable and silent and currently on sale for about £75 on life pharmacy online .

I've not had a problem with my medix econoneb, supplied by local costa tho so not sure how much they cost!

I also have a Medix AC4000, my GP also keeps one of these and a Portaneb in the treatment room as they are reliable and deliver treatment quite fast albeit noisy, the Medix AC4000 retails at £69 on the Evergreen website.
