Steroid Munchies

I am on 40mg pred most of the time and have noticed that I get uncontrollable urges to munch on any food to hand.

I take it this is part of the side affects of the steroids??

Any advice on how to curb this??

Hi, i get the munchies also and want food and chocolate. I have hot chocolate that helps and going get extra fruit in and sugar free polo mints xxx

Certainly not easy, I am not a big chocolate eater but whenever I am on preds I can't stop eating the stuff.

The trouble is it is all a nasty cycle, you go on preds because the asthma is bad, you eat more more because you are on the preds, you exercise less because the asthma is bad, you put weight on and this in turn doesn't help the asthma.

Enough typing I needing a KitKat !!!

yorkieiron' hahahaha x

Deff got pred munchies,

just been eating jaffa cakes and could have eaten my fingers haha

going be good tomorrow and get lot of fruit in 80)

I would count Jaffa cakes as fruit !

Five jaffa cakes = your five a day! Simple!

S.Mama

That 5 a day sounds achievable lol

Mind you is that 5 Jaffa cakes or 5 packets of Jaffa cakes?

Yorkieiron. You have as many jaffa cakes as you want! The vit C has got to be in there somewhere! I also count chocolate oranges as one of my five a day! Not sure if I could eat five of them at once though, but I'd have a jolly good try! ; )

S.Mama

So if I have Jaffa cakes, strawberry cheesecake, strongbow, apple pie and custard, what else can I have to get my 5 a day ?

Sorry, it was a bit daft..oh well..

To be serious for a moment. I recently read an article about weight gain on steroids written by someone permanently on steroids not for asthma, cant remember what it was). She recommended having lots of fruit to hand. She gets through masses of oranges. Good for Vit C too.

She also flagged up one of the other side effects - bone loss - and felt doctors should be more proactive in telling patients about it. Couldnt agree more.
