Please read if you have or had polygreen neb.

Hi all,

I have spent two days phoning maplins organising refunds etc for my polygreen. Its a false economy as it is cheap but doesnt last...

I spoke with a customer services manager today who was very helpful. When I told her that I was not alone in thinking that the polygreen was a bad design and not reliable, she asked me what neb I would recommend. I told her that a lot of people have the omron microair and that this seems to be the best, most practical cheap portable nebuliser on the market! I was given a customer services e-mail address and told that the people who buy products for maplin do so blindly - therefore feedback is always listened to.

She told me to e-mail her with details of what the main problems with the polygreen are AND what the advantages of the omron are as she agreed that selling a medical product which is useless when you need it is both irresponsable and dangerous.

In order to get maplin to stop selling the polygreen neb, she asked me to suggest an alternative cheap portable neb that they can stock instead. I still dont agree with them selling nebs if im totally honest but if they are going to its best they sell a decent one!!

Soooo my questions are - Is the omron microair the cheapest and most reliable for cost portable neb... (im personally sold on this by others views and my new omron arrives on monday ... just want other peeps prospectives on it!!)

and secondly, maplin said that if they get a few e-mails all saying the same thing then they will stop selling the polygreen and possibly stock an alternative like the omron.

If people are interested in sending maplin an email with their views I have been given their customer care e-mail address which will be opened by the lady I spoke to today - she then has the power to get the buyers to stop buying this inefficient neb. PM me for the e-mail address if you want to give them your views and head the email with polygreen complaints!

In fairness to maplin they were trying to provide an affordable neb to people - its just that the one they picked to sell is rubbish. They are also very good at refunding you if you do have a problem with your product.... so please if yours is still under garentee and already faulty with corroding springs or low battery life phone for a refund - ive got their number so PM me for that if you need to.

Take care all lv Kat Xxx

Hello Kat,

Many thanks for pursuing this with Maplin.

I did have a look in Maplin yesterday but the shelf was emty.

Perhaps you could suggest to Maplin that they ask for authorisation from a GP or a consultant?

Also if you buy a neb off the shelf you pay VAT whereas if you order one from one of the reputable web sites they are VAT exempt with the right form filled in.

Kate

I have omron and I take it everywere with me and it has never let me down wouldnt change it for all the tea in china it does its job brilliantly xxx

Hi,

I have heard a few peopel complain about the polygreen neb but were never very specific mainly they didnt think it was as effective as others.

I personally use an aeroneb go. manufactufred by respironics uk. i find it great. it was gievn to me otherwise i would ahve probably looked at the omron micro air. I ahvnt really come across anyone esle who has an aeroneb go like mine.

hi guys

Thanks for reading and replying!

Kate - i did mention them ensuring that people had authorisation from a dr or consultant but they can do that in store but not on line! I just dont really agree that they sell them at all really! But if they are gonna sell them best they sell a decent one!

For people tempted to purchase one of these here's a little warning! Its really a false economy! I bought mine in september but shortly after ended up in costa till end of november, it was used for a week then i was costafied again till christmas. Its recently be heavily used since the end of december! In total probably had less than 2 months of regular use in this time the springs inside the workings of it have corroded and are almost totally useless now and the battery doesnt work despite it being a brand new one and charged over 24 hours!

The maplin representitive i spoke to today agreed that a lot of the nebs they have sold have been returned due to the batterys failing and or corrossion on the inside mechanisms!

If therefore you only get 1 or 2 months regular use from it before it breaks then you would end up going through 6 in a year which works out at a lot more than what seems to be an old faithful neb-the omron!

Lesson learnt- portable nebs less than 50 pounds are not at all good! Still if anyone does want to complain directly to maplin and put there own feelings on the situation to them pm me and i will forwards the email address to you!

Stay well folks! Lotsa lv a very telephone weary kat Xx

Hi Everyone

Over the years I have had cheap and expensive Nebs, I bought the Omron Microair when it retailed at £200, yikes. By personal experience I would say always purchase your neb from the manufacturer or a medical supplies company. The customer service is always better and these people understand what they are selling. Omron Microair whilst an excellent little machine that has never let me down, I don't feel should be sold as everyday use machine, handy to stick in your pocket, but not up to heavy use. I personally don't think it is appropriate that any medical equipment should be sold by anyone other that the manufacturer and medical companies with a background knowledge of the conditions they are to be used for. Maplins employ staff with basic retail experience, and sell everything from Nebs to Electrical componets. There is no way their staff can be trained in selling medical machinery safely. You can not get your asthma prescription medication from an unqualified medical practitioner, so why do high street retailers with no qualified medical personnel sell medical related goods. Good luck to those with this Poly Green Nebuliser, hope you can make Maplin see sense.
