poly green neb help cleaning please....

hi all

Ive got two nebs one of which is a poly green neb! This neb is fantastic as its quiet and portable only problem is cleaning it properly. I use it at least twice a day more often than not 4 times each day and ive noticed after a few months of very regular use the springs in the sides are going a little discoloured. Has anyone got any cleaning tips as its hard to get access to this area to clean it properly and i dont want to corrode the metal further! Please help as the acti neb is just too far punishing right now! Lol! Thanks for your help everyone. Lv kat Xxx

I hvae had my poly green neb 4 months and the springs finally coruded today and have fallen out. They went completely rusty, altho i hvae been using it four times and more daily since i got it, so it has been well used.

I am not sure it is possible to clean this area. I think it is a problem with the design becuase if you get them wet it will make them rust further and that area that they are in is never dry so a design problem.

thanks hon

Ive started using the actineb more often its noisy but when im in the house ive not used poly green only use it now when im out and about! Tryin to keep it working so i always have a portable one given my asthma's recent state of stupidity. Anyways thanks for the info take care lv kat Xxx

Hellooo!

How old are these nebs and where were they purchased?

Just curious as to why they are going wrong!

Kate

Update, just looked at in on Maplins

Mmmm, just looked at it. I did see it and have heard from others that is is not very good. I would be very wary about buying something like a nebuliser off the shelf in a shop unless it was a chemist. (Lloyds also stock Omrons)

I don't think shops should sell them without medical advice because people can purchase them and then be refused the meds by their doctors.

Also Tchibo sells a cheap neb! Anything small and portable at that price £30 or so is not worth it. Basically the smaller the neb the better quality and engineering it needs to nebulise properly.

Compressor nebs - cheapish ones are OK as they just compress the air and are basic engineering, unlike Ultrasonic and mesh nebs.

Hope this bit of advice helps. I undertand that it is tempting to buy a cheap small neb when cash is a problem but it is sometimes worth trying to get a better quality one. My Omron is over 4 years old.

My poly green was only bought in novemeber and was only bought because the hospital would not discharge me unless i had my own neb at home. They wouldnt provide one i had to buy one, but becuase i was in hospital my dad had to go and get it.

I now have just bought an omron and it came today and it is very good and hope it lasts a lot longer than 3 months esp as i need to use it 4 times daily and sometimes more when asthma playing up.

thank you for your advise Kate i certainly learnt the hard way!

hi kate

Thanks for the info im saving up for an omron my polygreen is very good except this fault its never let me down yet... *touches wood*

I could borrow a compressor one from the hospital but it wasnt portable! If i wanted a portable one i had to buy it myself! I was declined funding from the pct!

Cost was a huge issue with me but its not a bad neb really but would on reflection say its definatly not suitable for constant use!!

Thanks for the info though- kate or plumie how much are the omeron nebs - and where is best to get it from - i bought my actineb from evergreen under the medix range! Was the one my consultant recommended as it was apparent i needed one of my own not a loaned one!

Thanks folks

I bought my Omron from White Medical, though at full price - nearly £200!

evergreens have them for around £100 and Lloyds chemist do too if you have one near you. Evergreens are very friendly and you can phone them up too!

Medix clement-clarke.com 01279 414969 do a generic version called the MicroNeb for £110

Hospitals will / should always provide a basic compressor one is a neb is prescribed for home use by dr. They aren't obliged to provide portable ones as their aim is for home use and to keep you out of hospital. some hospitals have portable ones for short loan. There are some compressor nebs that are lightweight portable battery run ones.

The Omron runs on 2x AA batteries and is fine on rechargeables but I always keep a couple of ordinary batteries in case the rechargeable ones have gone flat!

thanks kate

Did get a compressor one on loan from costa but was soooo noisy and took up my entire little coffee table! Bought one when the costa were getting stroppy about changing filters etc!

My actineb is fantastic tho still very noisy being a compressor neb!

Will look into omeron one when ive saved enough pennies ....

Thanks for the details though! At least for now i have two functioning nebs all be it one which is only suitable for use occassionally!!

Should pos check out the garentee as im sure its still within garentee-plumie isnt yours still under garentee too! Mmm!

Thanks tho for the info kate hope your ok! Take care lv kat Xx
