spanish inhalers?

this might have been asked before im sorry if it has but why do the turbohalers now come in spanish ?! and when you get of of costa they give you salomol insterad of ventolin ? im quite confused so somebody help me please because my symbicort instead of saying 200/12 like it normally does it says 160/9 ?

Its because whoever is writing your prescription is writing the name of what they call generic name which is the name of the ingredient eg Salbutamol instead of the Brand Name Ventolin. Generic meds are cheaper to buy as some are now bought in the EU. I have asked for certain meds to be prescribe by Brand names and my GP does but not all will as they are more exspensive. I also will only use Boots rather than other local chemists as the chemist i was using before always used generic EU meds i felt they werent as good. Boots also pick up prescript and delived to my home!

I had the same thing with my Sybmicort and asked the pharmacist about it. Like's been said, its the generic drug rather than the branded one but it is the same strength as the Sybicort even though it shows different figures.

I had the same thing with my oxis inhaler a month or two back. The english label said oxis 12 and the spanish said oxis 9. I went back to the chemist and after a few phone calls, looking on the internet and lookingg in a big book etc. It turns out that in the UK, the numbers refer to everything that is in the inhaler including the propellent, drying agents etc. However in Spain the number only refers to the amount of active ingredient in the inhaler. Hence why the Spanish dosages are always less.

Salamol is a generic name for Salbutamol or Ventolin.

If it helps, the drug in the inhaler is called Salbutamol. But the inhalers come in different names, salmol and ventolin are just 2 of many but the drug (salbutamol) is the same in every one not matter what the name is. Does that make sense to you?
