Well there are 1000mcg in a mg so 25 puffs wouyld give you the same dose. However they say only 10 puffs through a spacer is as effective as a neb
Agree with Bizkid on this one, and unless you have been prescribed a nebuliser, then should you need a fair few puffs via your spacer then it is time to seek emergency medical advice.
That's what I always thought - I assumed it was just simple maths, but somewhere I read that 4 puffs were equivalent to a 2.5mg neb, which made me think I somewhat over do it! Is the 2.5mg actually pure salbutamol, or is there some sort of mixer!? And also to consider is how much actually gets into your lungs with nebs or spacers...
Its hard to measure how much is inhaled via any method as even with a spacer my tongue gets on the way! Salbutamol you cant realy overdose one as such yes too much will give you shakes etc. However if you need to take you inhaler that much then that shows poor control. And during an attack if the 10 resue puffs dosnt help then you have to consider getting medical attention
Readin off my Neb packetcontains 2.5mg of salbutamol (as salbutamol sulphates) in 2.5ml sterile normal saline djusted to a pH 4 with sulphuric acid.
personally i find no amount of ventolin can give the same relief as a neb however it should roughly be 25 doses. But if havent been prescribed a home neb and u are that unwell that u are not getting relief from 2 or four puffs then really u should be seeking medical advice urgently!!
Thanks for your answers guys. It was only really to check that I wasn't more out of control than I thought, if 4 puffs were going to equal a neb!
25 puffs is definately not the right answer just think of the shakes u will get with that. I would say that question is more for dr or nurse to answer and as such. U should discuss with asthma nurse, dr or the asthma uk nurse. That way u will get the correct answer
With a neb you don't get the whole 2.5mg anyway because it doesn't stop when you breathe out. So when you're inhailing you're getting the salbutamol but when you're exhailing it's going into the air.
You probably only get about the same as 10 puffs of inhaler via spacer because of of the medication loss with a neb...
Hi C
I am guessing you are asking this question more out of curiousity than out of actually wanting to use your blue inhaler to equal a 2.5mg neb?
25 puffs = 1 2.5mg neb.
50 puffs = 1 5mg neb.
I once asked this to my consultant because i was curious and he laughed and told me. If you are needing 25 puffs you wouldnt be able to do it as you would shake too much and feel very poorly.
If you are only needing 4 puffs of blue a day then you are ok and no it doesnt equal a neb. Dont panic!
Out of my curiousity how many days in a week do you need this much blue? If it is every day do you know you can go to GP for more preventer to stop you needing this much a day? Sorry i stating obvious but some people dont know they can do this.
PLumie
Is ten puffs a day alright with a chesty cough for a ventolin blue inhaler
