Welcome to AUK. I was just passing and was goin to say if you type symbicort in the search box you will find lots of threads on it. You may have to log out to be able to do this. Personally I didnt get along with symbicort but I know many people who have used it and found it has made a huge difference to their asthma

Hello stardust,

Welcome to Asthma UK, I do hope you find that we are a useful source of information and support. Do feel free to ask any questions that occur!

I should start with something that we say to all new users - please don't be frightened or put off by some of the things you might read browsing around the board. This board is for everyone who is affected by asthma, but we do have a lot of people on the board with severe or brittle asthma - boards like this tend to attract people at the more severe end of the spectrum in disproportionate numbers. You might read accounts of poor control, lots of medications, hospital admissions and even ICU admissions. These sorts of things are not typical of asthma as a rule. The vast majority (~95%) of people with asthma can be almost completely controlled, with minimal or no interference with their day-to-day lives, once the right combination of medication is found.

I'm glad that you have found that Symbicort has helped you - are you using it on the normal twice daily regimen or on the Symbicort SMART regimen where you can also use doses as a reliever during the day? As Wherrers has said, there have

been lots of threads on Symbicort in the past, so you may well find some useful information if you use the search facility. Otherwise, I am sure that other people will come along who are on it. Myself, I am on formoterol, one of the components of Symbicort, as my long-acting beta-agonist, but I am on a different steroid, fluticasone (Flixotide). I think I do find formoterol better than its alternative, salmeterol (Serevent), although it's difficult to tell because my asthma is quite unpredictable.

Make yourself at home here, and as I said, do make sure you ask if you have any questions.

Take care,

Em H

Hi, Stardust and welcome to AUK.

I've been on Symbicort too for a short while (the twice daily crowd), after swapping from Seretide which seemed to be giving me so much cramp. Hit a new record PF since changed, so certainly seems to be doing something. Swings between morning and evening recordings are larger than previous Seretide, but still better overall.

Hope you enjoy the site and the support which I know you will get.

Hugs from Kensington

Alan

thnx

thnx for your nice welcome messeges,im on sybicort twice in the morning and twice at night i also use it as a reliever,im very pleased with it,my asthmas pretty much in control now,but i find i do caugh a lot which is releived when i have a puff of my inhaler, does anyone else have a problem with caughing,im still learning about asthma and like 2 no as much as possible about it,any info at all will be great, thnx

Hello

Welcome to AUK. I am another symbicort user, but have only been on it for coming up to 2 weeks. I am on the symbicort SMART programme and I have to say that I agree with AlanJ, that I can see an improvement having also moved from Seretide. My PF is even endeavouring to reach new heights!

It is fast acting, and I can also agree with you that it calms down the cough! Something I have been waiting for, for months. Yesterday I even managed to cycle 10 miles in just over an hour - but it took alot longer to get home!

Good luck

Oboelady
