Pulmicort (Budesonide) is good and works. I was on that for some time. You will notice a change in 2-4 weeks. Maximum effect at about 4weeks which you sustain at a maintenance dose. There is no real further benefit if used daily past 3-4months. It is an amazing drug. I was using AstraZeneca Turbuhaler 200mcg. So I would take 2puffs twice a day for the start. Tapered to 1puff b.i.d then finally to 1puff mornings only. Wash out mouth and if possible brush teeth each time after use. If at office/work, I used to carry my toothbrush to make sure I did that.

why do you need to wash out mouth or brush teeth?

You should as a bare minimum always rinse your mouth after taking any inhaled medication (water is fine). The chemicals in the inhalers can cause oral thrush, bad breath, etc., so you're just washing them away.

I've not taken that particular inhaler, but if you are taking the dry powder version, it's similar to Symbicort which I do take. It's worth being aware that you need a slightly different inhaler technique (according to my practice nurse anyway). Unlike aerosol inhalers, the powder has to be drawn (rather than it being propelled) towards your airways - the inhaler works by taking a slice the medicine from a 'stick' inside.

She recommended a slow but strong inhalation to get the maximum benefit.

Thank you for that advice.
