Does anyone know if the depo contraceptive injection is afftected by asthma (or should I say associated drugs ie serotide, ventolin, flixotide, steroids, atrovent etc?)
Thank you
Emma

My daughter has it and she has asthma, I had it and I had asthma no-one every said there might be a problem. BTW I was the 1st and last I heard only woman to get pregnant on depo. I had been on it for about 9 months went to GP to get my next jab and asked if the depo was making my boobs tender like I was pregnant GP held off giving the jab whilst a pregancy test was done it was positive a scan the day after showed I was 8 weeks pregnant with Josh who is now 15 clearly he was meant to be.
Bex, you must have a compeltely irrepressable hormonal system!!
There aren't any specific interactions between Depo-Provera and asthma drugs, but one thing you need to bear in mind is that both Depo-Provera and long-term oral steroids (prednisolone) can suppress bone density, leading to thinning of the bones. With both, this only happens when used over a long period of time and is probably less of a consideration with Depo-Provera, where it only happens after some years of use. If you're on long-term or frequent courses of steroids, though, you should be receiving additional bone protection simply because of this.
Bex thats hilarious! Ditto what cath has said...but i've had a bone scan so know my bones are pretty gd! i've been on the depo for nearly 3 years now with severe/difficult asthma and long term steroids for a while whilst on it and had no probs. Best form of contraception i ever used! Have had no side effects...everyone is different tho. Have no needle phobia and don't have to think about anything for 12 weeks so suit me to a tee!
