What a scary week! It has to be said... and i'm still not right.
I'm really not enjoying this cold weather, seems like others aren't either. I think i experienced my first asthma attack on Friday evening. My asthma had been playing up all week but I was feeling much better through the day at college on friday...though friday night was awful. I'd gone to my friend's 18th party, it was a house part but we were based in the garden and in her shed (which was heated!!). But we also had a fire in the garden which was lovely 'cos we all sat around singing campfire songs. But the smoke and my chest weren't exactly getting along very well, and having had a few to drink by this point, i didn't really take notice, because 1) i wanted to have a good time 2) i was only wheezing very slightly.
Anyway, my chest became really tight and so i went inside to try and find my inhaler, only to find it wasn't there. my friends came down looking for me and rang my parents to try and explain what was happening... to cut a long story short my mum had to bring it over for me, and everything was fine. But i just felt like i was literally breathing through a squashed tube, and i couldnt get any air in or out, was really awful... i mean ventolin calmed it down pretty quickly and i returned to normal, but i'm still wheezy today and this is two days later. I haven't needed my inhaler though, so hoping it will calm down. I'm going to gess this was an attack - and only a mild one it seems... but i don't want it to happen again. Praying this isn't one in a long line of attacks to come. It wrecked the night for me and everyone at the party cos they were all worried sick!
Hope everyone is ok, still pretty new to asthma so would appreciate any advice.
Hi Jess, This sort of thing used to happen to me quite a lot when I was younger. I remember going out for a Christmas meal at family friends (when I was about 17) and not being able to find my inhaler. My chest got worse and worse, and my family had to leave early, carry me home and call the doctor! My parents were not best pleased with me!
The thing is to remember to carry your inhaler with you at all times. I never leave the house without checking I've got one on me, and at home I have several inhalers around the house. You will also learn what your triggers are, eg bonfires trigger my asthma, also (strangely) wine. Anyway, I hope you feel a bit better now.
Hi Jess Ive been ill for a few weeks with my asthma, this time of year you need to keep really warm, if your right outside in future put a scalf round your mouth so you breath warm air in. drinking especially wine triggers my asthma. ALWAYS keep an inhaler with you and tell a friend what you need to do in a attack sometimes they panic too. I have alot of sympathy with everyone on this site. take care x

Hiya, like you I'm new to asthma but everyone herr seems to give good advice.
Do always take your inhaler with you. Everywhere. I keep spares in the car and my husband
s car. I never realised about wearing a scarf around my mouth in the cold weather.I wil definitely be doing that. were all in this together
