Without reading all 287 posts, I take it it's quite difficult to shed weight with the drugs you're taking?
Can anyone enlighten me which are the worst? As I have been trying for a little while now but it's not shifting, I'm on accuhaler Seretide 250 and salbutamol.
Meady, you should be fine on these meds - inhaled steroids have an extremely low absorption rate unless taken in very high doses. Things like prednisolone taken long-term can make you retain fluids and alter your body fat, making it more likely that you gain and retain weight. Bummer, but it *is* a useful drug, after all.
Pred is the main culprit, and some people have diabetes as well (either independently or as a result of long-term pred treatment), some meds for which can cause weight gain.
The woest is prednisalone - it gives you the pred-head munchies as well as reataining fluid. Theoretically any high-dose steroid can make losing weight hard but inhalers shouldn't do that. Most doctors would say that you don't have to put on weight, and I know some who are thin as a rake, it is a case of being very disciplined about portion sizes, wwhat you eat at meals and what you pick/nibble on inbetween. Low fat is a good idea and whatever exercise your asthma allows you to do. Having said all that I still can't lose weight even though I know all the right principles and do exercise because I have no will power to stay off the chocolate!
Meady -
Try the Rosemary Connelly GI Jeans diet , you dont have to do the xercise if you cant (like me ) but I have lost 8 lbs in 2 weeks being on 50mg pred as well as lots other meds In was also warned by my Gp that I am im lurking on the edge of Dioabetes and this hopefully could pull me back.
We have 2 blokes in our group and they love the womens attention and I havent felt hungry once!!
Good luck
Can anyone tell me how long b4 side effects from pred wear off? e.g. fluid retention and easier to lose weight. it is coming off but its hard wrk and still got stone to go.
