Did I just see someone on the new tv prog - Candy Cabs - be told to breathe into a rubber glove to stop a panic attack?????? Tell me someone, I just imagined it.

TV Prog getting it wrong
Didn't see it, but it wouldn't surprise me
DIdn't see the actual programme, but saw it on the trailer.
You did, think the writer got it confused with hyperventilating.
Sent in a grumble to the TV programme
Yes Granny, you did indeed see that
Ive just watched the film Passchedaele.
There is a character who has asthma (supposedly)
He gets a doc to say its gone so he can join the army.
Fast forward to him cringing in a shell crater, he is having an asthma attack. Miraculously, his friend hugs him & says dont worry, your ok, & his asthma is gone!!!
Wouldnt it be wonderful if that really worked
Jane hugged me & said the magic words from the film, but sadly it doesnt work
In another prog a few months ago, i burst out laughing when a character with asthma held her blue inhaler about an inch away from her mouth & sprayed it like breath freshener!!!
Ive tried it & that technique doesnt work either
Ahhh to be a researcher for tv
Howie
Edit.....
Actually, holding it couple inches away. It does reach your mouth, honest!!!
Looks like you've got yourself a new career Howie
Since we're discussing inhaler technique, I believe now would be a good moment to share this:
youtube.com/watch?v=GK7mJFw...
I actually wish mine could be sorted out that easily, even if it would mean me being a prize idiot.
I hope the program makers get a right telling off as the type of gloves used in the program are made of latex (which you can be allergic to) and the actress would be breathing in latex particles. Under health and safety law specifically COSHH you should avoid the use of latex. Which in this case I think this was unecessary as a paper bag would have worked...
Howie, they actually teach the open mouth technique where you spray the inhaler at your mouth from 1-2 inches away in the US. It's supposedly just as effective as (in fact some say its better than) the closed mouth technique, which is how we're taught to use MDI's (puffers) without a spacer in the UK. I'm thoroughly unconvinced!
Inhaler Technique
Speaking of inhaler technique, anyone who is using a puffer (not a dry powder) should be using it with AeroChamber spacer. Takes away the worry that you are not using your puffer correctly and avoids swallowing drug and bad taste. I know they are covered by the NHS trust once per year with a prescription.
Nimueh
Hi Nimueh,
Now that really surprised me.
How could it possibly work, id have thought it would dissipate before reaching your mouth, never mind lungs.
Ive gotta try that!!
Oh wow, it really does reach inside mouth cos i could taste it as well as feel it!!!
Cant be certain about getting into lungs though.
Howie
Philomena and Anguilla, I've just watched youtube.com/watch?v=GK7mJFw...
Isn't that what you're supposed to do? Hehehehe
Annista, if it is perhaps I should ask for a prescription for Chanel? Since I'm lucky enough not to be allergic to perfume, I wouldn't mind getting some freebies.
Nimueh and Howie - I'm sceptical about this whole 'hold away from your mouth' thing too - though it could hardly make Ventolin any less effective for me! Suspect I'd just end up spraying it up my nose or something if I tried, especially after the first few puffs...
Philomela,
The inhaler thing really does reach your mouth, honest.
Dont trust it enough to use it all the time though
Just watched hang em high, an old clint eastwood film.
In the film he is mistakenly hanged for cattle rustling (yeah i know, bit of a mistake)
Anyway, hes hangin there & the. other guys ride off.
Cue a sherrif. He cuts him down but hes not breathing.
What does his rescuer do
Mouth to mouth?
No, he jerks him up off the floor a few times using his belt.
Now you know how to.get someone back to life if you ever see someone whos been hanged by a lynchmob!!
Who said telly doesnt educate you
Howie
This has given me an idea for a new thread: 'Things I learned from watching TV'.
