Oxford Vaccine

I don’t know if anyone’s seen this yet but it sort of confirms what I’ve thought all along and it’s very worrying I wanted the Pfizer vaccine because of being on Methotrexate but was told I couldn’t choose so I had the Oxford and have just been working from home and being very careful . I have tried to put it out my mind that maybe the Pfizer was the superior one but then today theres is an article saying that the Oxford generates antibodies that are 2.5 times lower than the Pfizer against the Delta variant That’s a massive difference and I’m so concerned and angry ! For the first time in over a year we are having a small get together in our garden on Thursday which I was so looking forward to but now I’ve seen this I’m just devastated .My two grandchildren of 7 and 4 will be there and I’m so nervous now and I am also supposed to be meeting my daughters boyfriend for the first time which has been much anticipated but now I feel so on edge I just feel so angry that vulnerable people like us weren’t given the superior vaccine to give us the best chance . What does everyone else think on this ?

Is this a confirmed and peer-reviewed finding? My daughter is on metro. and has not heard of this. Suggest you speak to someone like arthritis action to get the latest confirmed findings, if you can’t find it from a reputable source.

Thanks for the info. Do try not to panic,do read the article that Sandybrown has given you a link to. You can not get better than the BMJ. Take deep breaths and keep calm. Talk to your Doctor. ❤️

That article is just a general article about how methotrexate lowers your immune response which I already knew This new article is specifically about the Oxford vaccine being much less effective than the Pfizer My argument is we should have been given the Pfizer to give us the best chance as our immune response is lower anyway There’s no point in speaking to my GP they’re useless and I can’t even get a get a telephone appointment on the nurse helpline at Guys for over a month ! Thanks for your response anyway

Yeah I ve seen that one That’s just about a reduced response with Methotrexate in general This article was talking specifically about how the Oxford doesn’t produce anywhere near the same number of antibodies compared to the Pfizer

I had to have the AZ vaccine due to an allergic reaction which hospitalised me a few years ago. To be honest, I am just thankful to have been double vaccinated and have some protection against hospitilisation/dying from Covid. I take sensible precautions but do see my children and granddaughter. I'm not really a worrier and that's my choice. You could always take an antibody test which might put your mind at rest.

I hope you can enjoy your family get together and try not to worry too much, probably easier said than done! But just think, you have been vaccinated, you have some protection and as long as you are sensible your chances are good. Enjoy your day

Hi. My husband is very vulnerable as he has COPD. He had the AZ vaccine but our daughters take a free lateral flow test before they visit. Then they probably don’t have the, virus. One daughter now has had 2 jabs but the other has only had one. Young children, if they get the virus only have a low viral load. They could have a lateral flow test too, to put your mind at rest. Try not to worry too much. 5 people die on the roads everyday and we live with that risk.

Methotrexate alone doesn’t make you that vulnerable it’s those on biological treatments that are more at risk.. I’ve been working all through Covid as a school nurse once our school reopened.. I’d check with my local rhumatology nurse.. before returning.. I’m 65 .. I’ve had both vaccines but got the Pfizer one .. worth contacting your rheumatology department to verify this .. and remove some anxiety

Thanks for your reply but I’ve tried my rheumatology department and there’s no telephone appointments for the whole of July .I understand what you are saying but you are much better protected than me because of having the Pfizer .

Do you not have a help line you can leave a message? I haven’t been seen in the rheumatology department for over 2 years .. I contacted the rheumatology secretary and asked about vulnerability and returning to work well before I was vaccinated.. the Rhumatology nurse called me back eventually.. NRAS are a good source of info

The liklihood of anyone at your gathering having Covid is actually quite low anyway and if you have had 2 injections (of anything) then you will have a good protection. Try not to worry and enjoy yourself. Just make sure you all behave sensibly and it'll be fine!

It depends on which article you read what information you get. The Oxford vaccine is as efficient as the Pfizer, there may be a difference of a percent or 2, but that's all. I've had both mine and they were both Oxford as has my husband and we have resumed our lives in full (withington govt guidelines) and have no worries about it. We cant avoid it, its always going to be here we can only do our best. Go get your jab, and enjoy your life to the best of your ability.

Hi Annenic, we are both nearer 80 than 70, had two doses of AZ and like you have resumed our lives as best we can. My Husband was one of the Shielders and says what life he has left he wants to live! We feel that worse than Covid is the fear of it. Like Proprietor says we must just be careful but still enjoy.😀❤️👍❤️

Hi Sue. You were going to be very careful no matter which vaccine you got anyway. It’s not like, if you got the Pfizer vaccine, that you were going to kick your shoes off and throw caution to the wind. Simply, as usual, be careful and enjoy. Good luck.
