Doubtful......

many moon ago my GP (who had a particular interest in rheumatology) told me that most people over the age of 50 have OA in some form...for some it causes an issue (pain) for others it doesn’t!

Hi grahamwass ,

Over 10 million people in the UK live with some form of arthritis, however everybody experiences it differently. The symptoms of osteoarthritis can vary a lot. Sometimes there is no pain at all and sometimes the pain can be severe and moving is difficult. There can be loss of muscle around the joints and this can make them feel weaker. Almost all joints can develop osteoarthritis but the most common places are the fingers, thumbs, knees and hips as well as the low back and neck.

It's worth looking for more information about the condition online, such as on the Arthritis Action charity website, so that you can speak to your doctor with more information and confidence:

Not to sure if you understood my question. I asked if a Doctor can accurately or otherwise predict when I will start to feel pain.

Maybe not, but I did....I doubt any doctor can give you the information you seek.

Hi Graham,

Unfortunately it is very hard for a Doctor to accurately predict when or if you'll feel any pain, as everyone experiences arthritis differently.

However, you can ask your Doctor if there's anything he'd recommend you can do to self-manage your condition in order to decrease the chance of you feeling pain, such as keeping to a healthy diet and exercising the affected area. They should be able to give suggestions for this based on your medical history and situation.

they did understand...it is was an odd question to which there is no answer. Just forget about it and carry on as normal we all have OA...

Yea, I very much doubt it unless he has a crystal ball that actually works. Just pray that the pain is miles away yet as when it arrives you'll wish you never asked. Take care.
