I was given Diclofenac (Voltarol) some years ago when first diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. It helped a little but I needed to be on DMARDS . I can't take Ibuprofen either, But I can use Ibuprofen Gel (Fenbid) and my GP put me on Fentanyl patches for pain caused by a combination of Osteo arthrtis and Osteoporosis.

I’ve not used this medication but have found whatever I have been prescribed for pain upsets my stomach one way or the other. However for stiff and painful knees caused by Osteoarthritis I have had good results from using Capsaicin cream which I first read about on arthritis.org . It can take some getting used to as it causes a burning sensation but I persevered and after a week or so the pain and stiffness almost disappeared. It is not recommended for continuous use but used for short periods it definitely helps me.

Look into turmeric and black pepper capsules for help with pain, but don't use them if you use blood thinners. Also you might inform your doctor if you do decide to use them incase they interfere with other medicines you might be taking.

I use it daily and it helps a lot, I notice a big difference if I stop taking it.

I wish you well.

Hello I recall taking diclofenic orally many years ago can upset stomach and I had constipation. Some people get really ill with it so I would say precede with care we are all different. Like you I cannot take Naproxen due to asthma effects and stomach problems. Take care Good luck.

That was the only drug that works for me; unfortunately they won't allow me to take it. It's only allowed for short periods as it can cause damage to kidneys; what I was told if taken full time.

I have osteoarthritis as well and also took diclofenac. I found that did nothing to help me. Naproxen has been the only thing thus far that somewhat helped.

I am in a pickle with pain relief. Amitriptaline makes me feel so drowsy I stopped. Tramadol helps if I take it only occasionally. Nothing really helps and now stoppedAmitriptaline emotions on rollercoaster. Joined a fitness club and struggling to get there but it helps. Its all a balancing act. Pain and stiffness so miserable. I am fighting this horrid illness. It could be worse. Its my birthday today. If you don’t mind the pain. Lifes ok really! Xxxx

Amitryptaline did exactly the same to me. So drowsy. I have osteoarthritis virtually everywhere I take Zapain up to eight a day. But I prefer to lower the dose and take Tramadol if really needed in between.I find Volteral a god send also!!

My general practitioner put me on that for my arthritis pain I have in my hands and feet. I found that hasn’t helped me what so ever. I tried Naproxen in the past and that helped me better than the diclifenac . I’ve even told my gp this but he hasn’t done anything to make my aches from my osteoarthritis calm down.

I have seen my doctor today’s he’s adamant he doesn’t want me to take diclofenac and has prescribed a new tablet called Etoricoxib 30mg I collect my prescription tomorrow and the chemist hadn’t any in stock, apparently there given to patients who have seen the orthopaedic specialist with good results, he’s hoping, watch this space 🙏!
