Does this sound normal for osteoarthritis?

Hello everyone,

I am 31 and since I was around 17 I started to notice a pain in my right wrist. I couldn't put any weight on it or it would ache. I went to the doctors and I was sent away without even being examined.

I went back over the years (about my wrist but also because I have a lot of other issues such as fatigue, severe headaches, dizziness, tingling feelings etc) but have always struggled to find any doctor interested in investigating, even once I developed a big lump in my hand.

Then, about a year ago I managed to get a doctor to agree to send me for some scans on the lump, and the sonographer suggested I have an MRI, which I managed to convince my doctor to send me for. This apparently showed that there was an issue with my hand, and they told me it's osteoarthritis. I was sent to a hand clinic who gave me some exercises and discharged me.

The trouble is, at the start of July I woke up one morning and the pain had spread to the fingers of my right hand (before that it had always been just the back of my palm/wrist), as well as the fingers of my left hand and my toes and feet.

I assumed that this wasn't to do with the osteoarthritis, because I didn't think it would suddenly spread like that? I have hashimotos disease, and always feel really ill, so I assumed it must be related to my thyroid or something.

After a few weeks I went to the doctor and she basically asked why I'd bothered to come in since I know I have arthritis and I should just take ibuprofen.

What I can't understand from Google is, does this seem like the normal progression of osteoarthritis? And also... Shouldn't I be referred to someone if it is arthritis?

As far as I know I've never been tested for rheumatoid arthritis, but my doctor doesn't seem concerned about it at all!

Any advice on whether you think this should be looking into would be really appreciated. I am struggling with a lot of everyday tasks at the moment.

Thanks!

If its a burden on you then go get it checked out, if your doctor won't help go and register with a other practice.

The only way of finding out what is wrong is by getting it checked by a professional.

You could ask your GP to run some blood tests to see if you have another autoimmune condition such as Rheumatoid Arthritis in addition to the Hashimotos disease with which you are already diagnosed.
