Reaction to Sulfasalazine?

I have already phoned my rheumy nurse and a. Awaiting a reply .

On the third day when taking the lowest dose of Sulfasalazine I came out in a rash like nettle rash , and felt uncharacteristically very low as well as feeling like I had asthma and bad stomach pains despite omeprazole.

Is this an allergic reaction ? Or just good ol side effects.

I can't restart at the moment because I have pleurisy and a virus.

The effects lifeted within four days .

Anyone else been like this ?

Kind regards and I hope people are feeling okay.

Becky .

Some people just really don't get on with Sulpha based drugs. I'm fine with it as long as I don't go out in the sun. But sounds like you don't, and more like an allergic reaction to it.

Thank you for replying. . That's what I thought too .

I now have pneumonia and pleurisy and feeling a little rotten .

I've said to the rheumy team that I need to gain confidence back in my body before. I start anymore new drugs.

I'm on methotrexate and steroids so we shall see what happens next in this rollercoaster of a disease .

I hope that you are feeling okay.

That is a true allergic reaction. Stop taking it and contact your doctor. A lot of people are allergic to sulfa drugs. With the feeling of asthma that can be caused by swelling in your throat.
