HI all I got my consultants letter that was sent to my GP today. Such big words I have been looking them up and they all basically mean the same thing. Swelling, damage to tendons, parts of finger bones. I have an appointment with GP so will get him to put it into English. What did we do before google ?????

I could not agree with you more! sometimes I think it is who are expected to be Consultants, because if you do not come out with the correct term, often that part off the conversation is dismissed and they have moved on and you left wondering " What did they say" So before you go to see a Consultant these days, make certain you have a degree in Google medical.
I can remember the days as a young boy, when the local G.P. was versed in most things, Mother would phone the surgery several villages away and say my son has had an accident, OK Doctor will be there shortly when he arrived a quick check on the wound, right he would say to my Mother give me a hand to get him up onto the kitchen table, we will soon have him fixed out with his Gladstone bag an hold all for most occasions, clean and disinfect the wound stitch it up and an injection for good measure. Those were the days! No layer's of Bureaucracy as in to days N.H.S. Same in hospital Matron was in charge all went like clock work, it fail when all these trust came int being and all these high paid trust managers could not keep pace withe the job in hand as it overwhelmed them, so they leave with a massive pay off, whilst the rest of the staff are struggling to cope! one of the main reason's why waiting list are so long.
Maybe, but about 80 babies per 1,000 died at birth in 1930's and it's about 3 now. Same with things like TB which was a real killer. The old fashioned doctors were great at day to day issues, but limited knowledge and skills for anything else. And I know I'd probably be dead now anyway as lifespans have increased too thanks partly to our NHS for all its faults.
