Bad pain this week.

This has been a bad week for me as far as pain levels goes. The pain in my back this week has been awful. Both in the middle of my spine and the lumber area . But also my feet have have done nothing but hurt all week too. Tonight I went to stand up to go to the restroom and had to sit back down to get off of them before I got to the restroom. So the question is this. Where do I go from here when my arthritis starts affecting not one but both of my feet? I'm not going to keep trying medications that don't help. The fact is this week has been horrendous when it comes to the pain levels in my back and feet. I think at this point I need to tell my gp when I see him on what I want, because I think my fear on what going to happen to me is trying to happen to me , and that's affecting my mobility to get around on my own without any assistance with medical devices. I have said all along that my fear was eventually being wheelchair bound do to my arthritis. God I hope this isn't the case. But my gut is telling me it is . All week long ive been fighting this and today its been hard tk get around by just walking . Its come clise a couple if times today of putting me in tears do to the way the pain has been. Two weeks ago it wasn't like this but now it is. Now what to do at this point . Will my gp take me seriously enough? This had made my work days this week very very long. Suggestions are welcome thanks a h from every one that responds to my post.

Hi my wife is in the same situation at times that you describe. Her levels of pain over a period have been increasing. She suffers from psoriatic arthritis and fibromyalgia. Over a two year period she tried various pain medications, Physiotherapy etc, each had little affect. About 16 months ago I asked the GP to refer her to the pain clinic stating everything they had tried had failed and perhaps it was time to bring in a more specialist opinion. She was referred to a consultant pain specialist who examined her and noted down all her problems from walking to bending, knee flexion etc also levels of pain. From this he referred her to a pain management assessment to see if she was suitable to complete the programme. She is now 4 weeks into an 8 week course( one day a week). Running the course are physiotherapy and occupational clinic specialist. Psychology specialist as well as pharmacists who specialise in pain management. Over the 4 weeks I have seen an improvement in my wife. She was told that it would not take the pain away but give her stratagems to help manage her conditions. A number of people on the course work and they are finding it helpful.

Badbessie, As of right now the only type of arthritis I have that I know of is OA. I haven't been diagnosed with a second type as of yet. But i have a feeling that i do have a second type of arthritis now. I could be wrong though. I'll have to ask my gp when I go in March. I'll let ya know.

hi badbessie your wife has my sympathy I also have psoriatic arthritis and fibromalgia hope she gets some good results with the pain clinic

Hi, I too have trouble with my back both mid and lower, I've had one TKR last year and I did have problems with just one of my feet but now the second one is worst than the first one. The doctor gave me a 12 week break from it all by giving me NSaids I had Celebrex. Oh what a difference, not pain free but manageable I was having lovely walks with my dog. I was also sent to physio I went 5 times and do all the exercises he gave me twice daily. I try to get on my exercise bike just for 10 mins twice daily too but don't always manage it. Now my time is up and I have been off of Celebrex for a week, I am trying hard but the pain is back badly and of an evening it's horrendous I get so tired with it all. so I can sincerely sympathize with you but have no answer for you I'm afraid

Vondel, my neurologist that I see wants me to go through physical therapy. I just don't see it helping me tho. It might ease it some but it won't ease it enough especially with it in my back now. I do what I can now to help it but with me doing that it's not enough. I stay uncomfortable every day anymore. I'm probably going to have to go back to a rhematologist . I went to one three years ago, when this all started. He's actually the one that told me originally that my arthritis pain that I was feeling in my hands and shoulders at the time was osteoarthritis. I stopped going to him because I didn't think he was doing what needed to be done to help it. But I do need something to help me now with this.

Hi, My physio was all for strengthening my back & leg muscles, he admitted he could do nothing for my feet. I have always since my 20's had back problems with discs once or twice a year never non stop but I guess that is because arthritis has set in. I really don't think the doctors have an answer and like you I panic as I don't want to end up in a wheel chair. I hope you get some answers and some improvement for your condition

Hi I have troubled with my feet for years so I really do have an Idea what your going through. You don't get any restbite from the pain and if you manage to get to sleep the pain eventually wakes you back up. I all so suffer with my hands back knees and hips and decided to take a break from work and use my pension pot I felt like a time waster on and if sick even my sister said I didn't look like I had much wrong with me so I didn't go on sick. Now I'm scintillation and still in pain but at least I don't Have to get up for work. I don't claim anything just scrape by on my husband's pensions. Sorry to go on. Resting does help but it's not a cure.

Burlingham, The pain is awful. This simple fact is I'm only 42 will be 43 in September and I feel at this point that it's not going to give me any choice but to start using a wheelchair before I'm even in my mid 40s. That's my biggest fear with this. Is having to start using a wheelchair to get around to to the way my feet and back are now. I'm sure you can relate to that. I don'treally want to go that rout as of yet but I will if I feel I have to . I've actually looked in a few already to prepare myself if I end up having to go that rout. Like it or not. Between The pain in the back and feet it's making me feel and constantly uncomfortable as well . So as of right now that where i stand with all of this. Jason

Sorry to hear how bad you are I hope you find something that helps your pain soon. I can manage mine at the moment by a mind thing I learnt in yoga years ago so I am lucky. Take care.

Hi there, I have a small amount of back pain following a fall, but cannot imagine how bad it is for some, but I can appreciate what you say as I have multi joint arthritic pain plus gout. When things are bad it can get you to a low ebb. I don't appreciate idiots who say" oh its not too bad for you " or think losing weight will give you a miraculous recovery from pain and the stress of struggling to exist on occassions. But most of us do get by don't we? I've been in constant pain now for 28 years and I've been managing alone for 13 since my husband passed away, I've even worked with my disabilities and pain but it's nice now not to have to struggle to work anymore. Take care of yourself and maybe things will improve for you.

Katie, I appreciate your kind words. Yes the pain is bad for me right now. It has been all week. I've been restless this week my feet won't stop hurting like they do right now, as well as bit the mid part of my spine and the lower part as well. I've bee trying to stay off my feet as much as possible this weekend but I did have to go out a couple of times during the weekend. God help me if I feel this way all week next week. I can barely get through a work day right now . Only tho g I want to do is sit to ease the pain I'm having . But even while sitting I do feel it some in my feet and less in my back. Until I get on my feet again it starts right back up in my back and get worse in both feet too. Shoes are uncomfortable unless they are my moccasin slippers. That's about the only thing that doesn't bother my feet when it comes to shoe ware. Hot showers have helped some this week so I've taken advantage of that. Thanks Jason

Hello Jason, hope today will be better than yesterday. I use a wheat pillow mean't for the neck and wrap it round my feet. If your back is bad this may impact on your feet, plus if it is systemic arthritis you may need pills to adjust what is going on inside your body, as in RA, lupus and gout. My husband had pain from overactive Thyroid and organ failure not all joint pain is due to osteo/wear & tear. I can only wear trainers or wide fitting shoes with insoles like you say shoes add to discomfort. Round the house I wear slipper socks, pain is worse in this cold weather as we tense to keep warm, at work is propably warmer than you can afford at home. Soaking your feet in warm water can sometimes help short term. And in the case of things like gout rest during flare ups if possible. Some tablets can impact on your pain so check the patient details even for painkillers. Many of the rub on treatments work well short term, for regional pain. Wheelchair ought to be last option, what about a mobility scooter!! just a thought, they are used for all kinds of illnesses that impact on mobility, and reduce the stress on your painful joints, I can't use one due to visual impairment and difficulty using the switches on them with my arthritic hands. Wish I could make the picture look better for you but this is an illness that is very poorly understood and very much a grin and bear it ,other than expensive private treatment that doesn't always work. Anything is worth a try I guess even if only for a respite from the pain.

Hey Katie sorry I didn't get back to you will now.Today was so so for me still. Both back and feet still ach like the devil. I have wheat bags I use at time you had mentioned a wheat pillow . I have 3 I rotate when I need to use them. It's been rainy here all day today so the dampness from the rain hasn't helped . I can came and took my shoes off to rest my feet. Getting ready to take my socks off as well and slip into my moccasin slippers . On days like this like it is today I usually change back into my pjs and robe instead of like sweat pants and a sweat shirt. I find my pjs and robe are warmer than the other . And when I hurt I like to stay as warm as I can. Witch that's exactly what I did this afternoon .im almost positive i have more that just one form of arthritis especially the way my feet have felt, thst including all my toes. I find this is hard to deal with at times. Don't think I want to go with a mobility scooter for several reasons. They're heavy and bulky plus couldn't use my upper body if I went with one of those to keep it strong. But it seem the most pain for me right now is my lower back down. I've been looking at my options tho for quite sometime. Like I said before my biggest fear with this is having to start using a wheelchair when my feet get to the point that I can't walk bit so far. Like the saying goes prepare for the worst but hope for the best out come. Jason
