Hi, I am due to have my pip assessment and wondered how long it takes and what is involved? Is it a medical exam or just questions and who does the assessment is it a qualified medical person?

I would be really grateful if someone could give me some info as I am so nervous.

Many thanks

Hi NannyCat. Ther is nothing to worry about. At my assessment they just went over the form you filled in and asked questions. Try to relax. Some get you to do things like lifting your arms up and bending repeating things to test your memory. I found the assessor I had was realy nice. And understood my difficulties. I was awarded it I have COPD and psoriatic arthritis . I got most of my points due to the things I have to help with daily living. If they ask you to do things only do them if they don't cause you pain. My assessor was happy with me doing that. Good luck and try not to worry to much. Take care xxx

Hi - I have only had one assessment, it took a while, about an hour I think and the lady was an ex-nurse. She asked lots of questions about how my disability affected my every day life, whether I had help, if I had any gadgets, that sort of thing. I wasn't asked to go into any detail about my ailments, they already had letters of response from the various consultants, whose names I had given them. In the end I was awarded a payment, thank goodness.

Hope this helps,

Madeleine.
