Dear Znewell

This is quite a common side effect I think. I was diagnosed in Feb this year and put on 15mg mtx with no problems but when my dose was increased to 20mg in July felt really sick, stomach pains etc . Have now reduced to 17.5 mg and much better. Increasing folic acid helps as well but contact the rheumatology team first.

I was like that at first, cos I was told to only take 1 folic acid tablet a week. They increased that to one 6 days a week (not on MTX day) and I was much better.

If you really can't tolerate MTX tablets, there is the option to self inject it, I inject both MTX and Embrell and no sickness feeling at all, mind you I also take ondansetron which is an anti emetic. I hope you feel better soon, perhaps you could ask your doctor about going on an antiemetic, there are several out there that work really well. Feel better soon x x

Hi, I was on Mtx Injection after the tablet form, but due to my Liver Count I have had to stop taking it for the moment, but yes you are right, it made me feel sick, nausious, and I had a stomach ache, another problem was constipation or diarrea, I never knew what to expect from 1 day to the next, I injected on a saturday evening and then Sunday and Monday were wiped out, leaving me fatigued and drained, it's not a nice drug but the positives are also good when it comes to pain and swelling. Hope this helps, repost if you I can help any more.
