Hi everyone ive been taking methotrexate for 2 months for psioratic arthritis plus 5mg of folic acid, iv heard conflicting info as to what the dosage of folic acid should be ? Ive been prescribed 5mg per day but a lot of what ive read about seems to be 1-2mg, im worried i may be taking too much !

Thanks

I take 5mg every day except for the day I take MTX. Some consultants say have one tablet on the day before, others say on the day after, whilst some, like mine say every day except MTX day. But the dose is usually 5mg. I have heard of some being prescribed a higher dose, but never a lower one. If you don't feel sure, ring your rheumy nurse for confirmation. x

I to take Methotrxate and 5mg Folic acid for Psoriactc arthritis about 7 weeks rheumy

nurse has just up my meds to 15 mg MTX, she said if one 5mg folic acid the day after

works for me that OK but if I get side affects from higher dose just take a few more

folic acid tabs. Methotrexate is just starting to help my pain in my shoulders, arms

Know someone who has taken MTX for 12 years with no side affects he only takes

one Folic acid the day after and he's fine. I did worry about taking these drugs but

it's good to talk to other people, especially long time users. Hope U are feeling

better too. Maz.

Ladyinredxx. Yes I take 5mg of FA the day after my MTX sometimes the FA makes

me feel a bit sick. I drink soda water for this it helps. Also my daughter who has

AS. Takes her MTX on Mondays. And FA on Friday I think it's just what works for U.

Feel bad for my daughter she is only in her forties at least I'm old seventy plus. It's

good the Methotrexate seems to help us with the pain. Best pain free wishes.

I can't help with that question unfortunately. I have rheumatoid arthritis and methotrexate did nothing for my pain.
