Update on Daughter..

Hi,

Sorry its been a while since I posted, its all been very busy with driving up and down to Exeter to visit daughter and baby.

She is doing really well, and allowed an overnight home leave tonight, which she is super excited about.

It has taken a while to get the right medication for her and it looked like they had done it, but she found she didn't hear the baby through the night and she was poorly one night, the Dr came and they took bloods, which she consented to, but she had no memory of the next morning, that distressed her as she was not having an episode at the time, just completely zonked due to the medication, so they have reviewed it and changed it in the hope that it will sort that..

She was sectioned due to the fear she would walk out with baby, and after the poor mom in Southmead hospital that took her baby and died at Clifton Bridge, they were just not prepared to take the chance ..not that they thought she would do anything like that BUT they cant take any chances..

Daughter now understands how poorly she was, but thanks to her being in the unit, she has got the help needed and is well on the road to recovery..

She has stopped breastfeeding, partly down to baby getting very fussy and not latching on properly, but also he was very jaundiced so the health visitor kept pushing for him to be topped up with either breast milk or formula..so they started with breast milk but she couldn't get enough after feeding him so formula was the best thing..and its gone from there, but shes ok as in the end it was her decision..and once she stopped they could give her stronger meds..which they are now tweeking to get it right for when she does finally go home..

So all in all the M&BU has been a very positive experience..daughter has another couple of weeks before she gets discharged, at least unlike with the adult units, they are not rushing her out the door, they want to make sure they have it as good as it can be for her and baby so shes unlikely to be readmitted..

thank you to everyone who messaged asking for news xxx
