Grandson arrived in the early hours 6/4/18 and his Momma did something she has NEVER done...skin to skin contact as soon as he was born..might not seem much but for her its a HUGE thing..she even kissed him and then fed him..had a shower and came back for more skin to skin...I am about to take her other children in to meet their little brother, I am hopeful that its a sign of good things to come but not daft enough to leave her to get on with things...but its a start xxx

Good to hear Red. And congratulations to your daughther and the entire family.

Now its the time to buggle up cos u going to hv some sleepless night both baby and your lovly daughter. Since shes got some episides before i will advice u hv ur meds on hand in case things turns around. I did that mistake when wife delivered. I was overwhelmed with happiness and fatigue due to long labour and even forgot to ask for her meds until after 2 weeks when shes started throwing my cloths in the bin saying they are evil. Then i dawn on me again.

Its a good sign shes bonding with baby and feeding her. Thus very good. But it is possible please do stay around her or she should not be alone most times. Also try to sometimes engage her in conversations so she talks more, laugh more etc it also helps. Lastly, if she can start taking her meds since it does not affect the breastmilk shes giving. At least low dosage like 5mg. But that should be decided by her doctor.

Remember, trust Jesus and always pray that she gets well. I know she will cos as at now my wife is doing amazingly well. So am confident that she will get over it. But to reach that its hardwork, love patience and above all forgiveness.

I wish u all the best as a man and stay blessed. Congratulation to your new born.

Hi, Its not going great as in grandson has been readmitted to hospital due to high levels of jaundice, and daughter has started to blame herself..I am starting to be concerned that she is slipping downhill due to tiredness and being stuck in hospital..grandson wants to feed all the time which means he is not under the blue lights as long as he needs to be, so the mental health midwife is talking to daughter to see about her expressing as much as she can to top up his feeds to try and keep him in the fishbowl with the blue lights..the concern there is she will see it as them trying to wean him onto a bottle..but they really want her to breastfeed so thats unlikely to happen..she just feels her body is letting her down but she is doing brilliantly she just cant see it.. the move hasn't happened yet, should be in the next couple of weeks..her hubby has been packing like mad to make it as easy as he can..he has anther week of paternity leave left which is a shame as she has been in hospital for all of it bar 1 night at home..but hopefully the number for grandson will be good today and overnight and they can go home tomorrow.. I hope this has made sense I am so tired with spending half the night in the hospital room and the other half listening to my OH snoring..deep joy...sigh xx

Hello RedRosie36

Thanks for taking the time to update. I'm sorry to hear things are not great as your grandson has been readmitted to hospital with high levels of jaundice. Such a shame your daughter has started to blame herself and might be slipping downhill due to tiredness. It's good that the midwife is trying to reassure your daughter about topping up her son's feeds.

As you say, she is doing brilliantly and you have been a great support and comfort. I hope the number for your grandson has been good today and overnight and they will be able to go home tomorrow. You must be very tired spending so much time in the hospital so I hope you can have a good rest tonight. Take care. xx
