Hi Pumpkins,

I had issues trusting doctors etc during and after the birth of my son in Brazil. I ended up having 2 c-sections 3 weeks apart due to the Dr leaving a swab in my uterus and causing an infection. They lied a lot to cover for themselves and with the language barrier as well, I found it very difficult to trust anything they said. I was quite lucky as I had a cousin whose wife was a pharmacist who could at last advise me on the drugs they were giving me. Do you know anyone with a medical background that could give you some informal advice that you trust?

What is it exactly is it that you don't trust about them? Has there been anyone you have meet with and trusted?

Take care of yourself xx

Hi Pumpkins,

If you want to recovery quickly,

1. You need to acknowledge that you are ill and need help

2. You need give some trust to your helpers. They could be your husband, your doctors, your friends and family etc. I believe none of your loved once want you in this state.

3. You need to be willing to be treated. Being defensive is only going to keep the illness there and frustrating your helpers.

I understand your situation now when it comes to trust. My wife did the same to me, her mum, her dad, 3 doctors and even 2 pastors. But when she agreed to take the help she is now on the road to recovery gradually.

For you to me on this platform should even tell u that u needed help and advice thus why you are here. We will all share with you what helps each of us.

So trust;

1. In God and His son Jesus Christ that you will recover

2. Your Helpers at some point to help you.

We all cannot tell you a YES or a NO or Who or What or How to trust. But what i can say is there is a trusted helper that stays more closer than a brother.

Take Care

In my experience, I also did not trust just about anyone. The only two people who really had my trust were my husband and my psychiatrist. From there I had to work on my medications and myself in order to trust anyone on the outside. I am now able to see a therapist and participate in a peer to peer bipolar group. It was slow going.

Please know that you are not alone and you will find the way to overcome this nuisance.

Dear Pumpkins,

I am pleased that you found this forum, because you always seem to have so many questions. Luckily nowadays we can delve into some research ourselves in order to get answers (APP, rethink.org, Mind, Royal College of Psychiatrists, NHS etc.) or interact with mums, specifically this forum, who have been through similar experiences.

Sometimes the old stuff (which has been swept under the carpet, and/or continuously regurgitated) or brand new experiences can be rather frightening and it is important not to bottle it up, but find somebody you can talk to. It is not all 'doom and gloom', because there are some fantastic professionals about, who are trying their uttermost to listen to patients and individual needs, despite ongoing financial constraints.

I do not trust easily and have become a rather cautious person, but know that after PPP and along my recovery family members, some passionate professionals from the NHS and a few friends always have been there, beside APP :-) , - sometimes I was too poorly to acknowledge their good intentions! I am always grateful to those once who helped me to be where I am now.

There is a path for you and it could be very therapeutic! In my case support groups for self management were very useful at the time, Yoga has been a healer including meditation, long walks and cycling any type of exercises to get your 'happy hormones flying' :-). I enjoy my creative life and endless quality time with my son and partner.

Hope this is an encouraging message for you.

Look after yourself,

x
