I see that most folks on here are from Britain or Australia. I am from America. I see some have problems with the Mother Baby Units. They don't think they need them, etc. I am a little jealous. Where was this resource when I had mine in 1993? Maybe time, but also maybe area. I was in an acute unit for adults with my baby staying with in-laws. No one ever understood. There is a bit of an assembly line birth system going on here. Unless you are c sectioned, you are lucky if you get to stay 48 hours. With a C It may be 5-7 days. To have a unit devoted to possible psychological trauma where you can be with baby is dream, going without it was a nightmare. How can you get this awesome idea across the pond (to America)?

Charities to raise awareness, Mental health charities? Get in touch with other American woman who have had the same diagnosis and write a book to raise awareness? Really have no idea, even in Britain there are not a lot of MBUs there are highly in demand with most only having 5 beds per MBU, stats say 80% of women can't be treated because of this.
I see you was diagnosed in 1993 how are you feeling today?
I hope you and little one are feeling great and good luck getting USA to join the MBU like you say they are needed!

Hi Lot1993
A good place to start is probably Postpartum Support International, which is based in the US. There are various groups campaigning for MBUs (I believe there is just one in the entire country!) and I think PSI would be able to link you up, depending on your state.
I feel very fortunate that the UK has these vital units. If it helps I wrote a blog post about the special importance of MBUs, and I could give you the link?
Best wishes
