Tomorrow at 2.15 radio 4 is broadcasting a drama about PP.

Heres the blurb and the link.

Jessica Pidsley was in perfect health, enjoying a career as an actress, comedian and writer at the end of a straightforward pregnancy with her husband Matthew Bannister.

Hello GorillaMuma

Thanks for this link. I hope it won't be too upsetting for you to listen to although it's good to share experiences to raise awareness. Hopefully you have found time to focus on relaxing a little more and your recovery continues to be positive.

Take care.

I really enjoyed listening to this. I did it alone as I didn't know what it might stir up but actually it was ok.

It made me realise how lucky I was not to have been discharged from hospital when my episode started and how lucky I was that I responded to the first lot of medication I was given.

It's facinating how similar some of the behaviours and thoughts I had were to those experienced by mama courage.

Hi GorillaMumma

Many thanks for posting the link to the PP drama on Radio 4 which I listened today in iPlayer radio.

I was sectioned on a general psychiatric ward with hypomania following the birth of my daughter in 1982. The drama certainly triggered memories and I could identify with 'talking a lot' & the agitation which was described aptly as a 'tidal wave of energy'. Even after all these years, the memories are still painful but I guess it was part of life's rich tapestry.

It was great that PP was given airtime and it was very good to hear the perspective from the father as well.

My very best wishes to you. Vee x

I found this absolutely fascinating and also brought back memories of my psychosis and stay in MBU.

It was lovely how supportive Jessica's husband Matt was and it really made me aware of how scary it must have been for my husband, being completely powerless to stop the illness.

Again it's made me wish I had written during my illness and recovery but I suppose I wasn't really in a fit state to, many concentration was so poor and I was breastfeeding every moment I was awake (or at least that's how it felt!).

I have told my friends who are medics to listen as I think it's really important professionals are wondering if behaviours could be PP related in the early days/weeks.

X

It was a really good and insightful program and I'm glad it will help raise awareness and challenge the stigma around psychosis. Thanks so much for posting the link.
