I have some knowledge of Ketamine and the treatment now being offered for depression. I also “date”, said loosely, a man who’s favorite drug is K. At 1st I was terrified to even try it but he eventually took that fear away by just giving it to me. We’re in our late 30’s. In low doses I see that it’s very effective for him in treating his depression (overinflated ego) but when I did it I felt fear of what will happen next - it’s not for me. Ketamine is an anesthetic, but it numbs your mind in a weird way when you stay conscious (non K-hole effect). Some people can function like almost normal people while using not abusing K, micro doses I suppose. My boyfriend uses it regularly to, in his exact words, “escape reality”! He seems to become very calm and easy going when he’s normally obsessive compulsive narcissistic and verbally abusive in the most condescending way a person can be. This drug elevates his mood but also makes him slur a little bit and not look completely “there” so I don’t know how they plan on using it for depression treatment unless it’s only for the session as some kind of truth serum?? I felt the closeness it brought in making me want to be playful laying on his lap, having my hair played with, etc. He is so much more lovable to be around when he’s high on K but I don’t see any long term benefits and he’s been using it for decades. If anything he’s become more and more selfish and detached from society and family, as well as unsympathetic to us and the rest of the world in his normal daily actions!
